Is iNet ready to full upgrade worth it?

We’re completely new to Truma iNet systems and our new van comes with an iNet ready control panel. Is it worth upgrading the system to have remote control of the heating and hot water?

Interested to know if people who have this, use it and what they think of it? Is it reliable? Simple to use etc?

Also, be good to know what we should expect to pay for the upgrade, or how complex a DIY job?

For info we have the Truma 6 system, gas and electric - with 2 x 11kg Gaslow system fitted.

Many thanks

The downside is that it uses about half an amp of power, even when everything is off. So it'll drain a battery just sitting there in a couple of weeks. As you suggested, an obvious improvement would be to add an internet gateway so there's remote control.
Thank you for saving me looking for my drain on my battery !

I think that must be the standard Inet controller (which does work with older boilers) not the Inet X? Inet X has a colour screen and is the version which cannot be used on older boilers, according both to their online documentation and their technical dept when I called to ask whether it was compatible if the PCB was updated to the latest version.

(I had to replace the PCB anyway!)
Mine just said iNet ready on the front of the controller, nothing changed on the boiler end, but the iNet system did plug in at the boiler end into a spare rj11 socket on the board and not at the control panel end like some have done.

Think he's talking about Alde boiler not Truma I use my older iNet box on our 3020 Alde boiler.
Yes this is correct my Alde boiler is a 3020 as stated, the iNet 2g box is very hard to come by as some have already mentioned.

We have the same as you, Truma 6E and 2 x 11 Kg gaslow. In the 3 years we have had the van from new haven’t come across any need to remotely control it.

My 2021 AS Bourton has the iNet system via text or Bluetooth and works fine although I thought it only operated the Truma Aircon. I've just checked the app and I can see it has a hot water getting too. So far i've only used it to cool the van down if I have been away on a walk so it is cooled down a bit by the time I get back. If I've been away in the cold I've just left the heating on a low setting.

I've had inet in my old van will soon be moving it into our new one, it is not perfect but it did give remote access to turn heating/ water up down or off etc, or just provide reassurance of what settings the system was set to. As mentioned it is 2g I think our SIM card is Giffgaff. Not sure if I'd pay to invest in it now but if you can get a 2nd unit at a good price, I'd say do it, very basic wiring, 12v supply and a data cable that connects to the Truma boiler.

The Truma Inet box is, I believe 2G mobile only - so fairly basic functionality via the app. That said I’ve no personal experience of it!

The new Inet X is more modern, you would need to change the panel as well, but only boilers/systems from 2019 onwards are compatible, as I understand it, and older boilers cannot be upgraded.
When I had the 2 g iNet on my 2023 Auto sleeper I was told from new also you couldn't update it, but as the Auto Sleeper build was such a bad build and had so many faults we got rid of it after 11 months, in saying that I know Auto Sleeper had a change and there was a new Factory Lady Manager who I met and was determined to sort build quality out, I hope she did as materials used seemed quite high quality, vehicle desk I felt quite stayed , but, functional

Sorry to drag up an old thread but it looks like the Truma iNet X connect box is now available…

I can’t find many places that sell it but the one that does has it for £444 😳

Don’t suppose anyone has bought one and can let us know what it like?

I really hate these subscription based services, it's just another way to fleece you for more money, better off fitting one of the older ones and just using payg sim if you can.
Of course, if there is no other option I think I would likely give it a miss at that price plus monthly/yearly costs

The old system used a really janky method of sending SMS messages. But it meant there was no server that Truma had to run. The new app based system is far better, but requires Truma to maintain an internet service for the life of the product. So not entirely unexpected that there's a cost. It's far more likely that it'll still exist in 10 years than many comparable free 'smart home' type devices.

Don't dispute any of that, but for that kind of money it's a wide berth for me and for many, i would expect.

2G will be gone, but for the moment i will stick to what i have until that day comes. There will be a lot more that breaks when that finally does happen though, so it's going to be expensive for all older gadgets, not just this one.

I paid £220 for my inet box about 5/6yrs ago and use a cheap pay as you go SIM moved the inet box from my previous truma heating system in my previous van to my Alde system in my now van does everything that the new system does for a fraction of the cost when will it end ? May be like DAB radio making FM radio obselete will it ever who now's the new system might be obselete before the old 😲

Pretty sure in the 8 years that I have had the original iNet I haven't spent more than £30 on my payg card. I usually send a couple texts a month to it just to keep it active. Whilst we are away I do use it but only occasionally on the GSM side as it's mainly bluetooth.

The new Connect box isn't much of an improvement at the moment but at least they have some headroom now to improve it.
I personally think it's a step in the wrong direction though. Releasing an open API layer for their units would be better. Now Truma is stuck with developing and maintaing an app which they probably suck at, and the end users are stuck with yet another app that doesn't talk with their other kit . Easy interfacing would allow converters and proficient DIY-people to plug the Truma gear into whatever centralized control unit they like, for a lot more seamless integration to their other systems which would be infinitely better than any app that Truma can develop. That's the Connect-box I'd like to see.
