New deals available from IQ Mobile from today. Whilst I appreciate the effort that has gone into these offerings, I am still underwhelmed and will not be returning to that particular fold. Anyone more whelmed than me?

Not whelmed at all. I didn’t ask for a refund on the original £20 sim when they did away with the original deal, despite having many months left on it. I know others did but IQ Go asked for patience whilst they negotiated other deals. So when renewal came around I asked about some pro-rata loyalty rate until the new deals came on stream. Lo and behold loyalty counts for nothing.

Such a shame they were forced to change. We’re off to France soon and still don’t know what data SIM to get for our van router?
Tesco mobile let you use all your UK data allowance in the EU. So 100gb for £30.

£70 for 3gb per day and you need a VPN to watch UK TV, no not for me.

Not quite…..you get unlimited data for the month….but each day after you have used 3 Gbytes the service is throttled at 1 MBit/sec. It resets at midnight and you have 3 GBytes at full speed for the next 24 hours. Also it appears to work on more networks and in more countries than the existing IQ Go offering.

This may be a useful offering for frequent business travellers going to various countries, but is unlikely to be useful to MoHo users going to Europe for several weeks/months, not least because of the relative expense and still needing a good VPN to stream UK TV for a relatively short time each day before your 3 GByte allowance is throttled. Doubt you could stream even standard definition TV when throttled to 1 MBit/sec.

Defo not for me! (n)

Also got the IQ email today and am similarly underwhelmed.

Currently struggling to narrow down a decent data SIM option for our Netgear Nighthawk mobile Wi-Fi router. I have a Scancom pre paid EE SIM for the UK only, it works very well, but nothing yet to replace IQ Go for travelling in mainland Europe.

no restrictions the whole data package can be used abroad .
No VPN required either for live uk telly

The snag is that the Tesco SIM is intended to work only in a mobilephone (which you could use as a hotspot). It is not intended for use in a wireless router like the Netgear Nighthawk. I have seen reports of folk successfully using a Tesco SIM in a MiFi unit. However, when I tried to get one to work in my Netgear M1 it failed. 👎

Yes, it’s hard to see how it’s better than buying a domestic SIM in France , Spain, etc given you still need a VPN. And (accepting that it works in more countries than the original IQ Go) I’d be more inclined to go with IQ Go at £75 for 100gb a month with no need for a VPN.
We’re only planning on a 6 week trip to France this year so it looks like our Tesco SIMs will do us fine.

We got a Tiekom one, 400gb in Spain and 200gb elsewhere in EU and UK, stop and start like the IQ one.

Did you get it delivered to the UK? If so, how long did it take please. Ta.

These settings should work for Tesco on the Netgear M1:

Certainly works ok in my TP link router

I've had a Tesco sim for two years - 100gb for £17.
Used it for 3 months in France, Spain and Portugal last year in a Verison Mifi and my phone, also ran it through an backup LTE mifi.
Currently have it running through Mercusys Mifi unit in the UK. I have no other broadband access or phone line at home - just the mifi.
