My son would like to gain experience driving a car, simple starting and pulling away, steering and parking up before taking lessons.
Do I have to insure him to drive my car on L plates. If so is it better to add him to my policy as a named driver or get him provisional insurance, I understand the latter protects my NCB.

I’ve recently come across‘Marmalade’ insurance where the young driver has their own cover for a named vehicle of family or friend, this looks similar to what you mentioned as stated protects NCB of car owner. Never come across this before - I have an insurance background and it always used to be illegal to insure a vehicle more than once so must be a relatively new concept (new as in this millennium 😂)
