3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
Pick up our new and 1st motorhome on Wednesday! Need to start to look at arranging insurance. I will do the usual price comparison websites etc but any recommendations. Any things I need to be aware of to make sure it's covered properly?

The comparison sites are not so good for motorhomes, I ended up getting lots of emails and calls but none could get close to my renewal price and cover from Comfort.

I've just spent an hour on the phone today getting quotes from Safeguard - only to find out the company I have been with for 5 years is still the best
Reassuring I suppose.

You often have to specify if you will be traveling abroad now. If you are, you should consider breakdown/recovery from Europe - about £65. They will probably ask you how many miles you would estimate you will travel - I always have 8,000, which usually does for us.

Comfort Insurance has given me a renewal quote of £355 on a £50k motorhome

NFU also seem to be very competitive but they don't cover my Post code.

Comfort - £340 for brand new 60K van. £65 for Euro Breakdown cover.

Seems good to me with no prior experience. Cheaper than my both my 10 yr old and 17 year old cars!!!

How's that generally?

Has the brand new van not already got breakdown cover?

Good question - but I doubt it...and certainly not in Europe. Warranty yes but not rescuing you from the middle of the Pyrenees!

It it's a Fiat it will have either 2 or 3 (they keep changing it) European breakdown cover.

We have been with Comfort for years.
If looking at other companies quite a few car insurers offer car policys that are not suitable for Motorhomes.

It should be covered by Fiat Camper assist breakdown cover including Europe , make sure it has been registered with Fiat camper assist by your dealer.
This cover is an extra added to your normal warranty for Motorhomes.

It's a Burstner Lyseo 727 on a Fiat Ducato.
It will have European breakdown cover for at least 2 years probably 3.
Although the warranty is 2 years you need to check the Camper assist book to see if the breakdown cover is for 2 or 3 years, I found out mine was 3 years after I'd paid for cover for the 3rd year.

I went with performance direct £465 no alarm and they supply the tracker , only reason I went with them is because I can now go and get a van bitz alarm as all the others required alarm or tracker within 28 days except Comfort who wanted one in 7 days , there is not a lot between them to be honest price wise, good hunting .

I use 2Gether insurance brokers who put me with Highway. Cheap as chips but haven't had to make a claim yet

And they directed me to this forum so that I could claim a discount on my insurance as a they do with "camping and caravan" and "caravan and motorhome" clubs.👍

The 2 year Fiat Camper Assist can be extended to 5 years but this has to be done within 15 days of first registration. It extends the warranty and the recovery service.

We've used Comfort Insurance for past 4 years. Annual rate was same as our previous small van from one of the clubs. When we got a new van we were quoted over £1000 by the club and less than £350 by Comfort. Though this requires a Tracker.
Comfort keep you updated with what is happening (e.g. series of informative emails over effects of Brexit and Covid).

Another vote for performance direct £265 for 40k van with alarm, 8k miles per annum. I have just renewed. They use a company called Highway. But full European cover is £125 extra. They also cover hailstone damage, got it in writing from them. See other thread for warnings about this.

You could try LV, I’ve used them all the time I’ve owned a motorhome, include their breakdown which I can vouch for having had a French breakdown. Every year I obtain quotes from different insurers but non can match Liverpool Victoria.

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with insuring through the Caravan club (or Caravan and Motorhome club now).
Many moons ago we wrote off a caravan on a motorway and they were very efficient about dealing with our claim. More recently we had our motorhome stolen and we felt that we were given a very fair payout for the value of our van.

I would definitely use them again (if they’ll have me!) ;-)

Try SAGA,get some quotes elsewhere first to have some haggle basis.Between 6 and 8 k miles a year doesn't make much difference, 12 -14 will push it up a bit.Call centre very responsive, green card for whole period no charge ,no trip or total time limit ,all of EU/EEA and cover at same level as UK

It amazes me that Saga don't do campervan insurance. I was with them before we bought our van and whilst they weren't the cheapest their service was second to none. I was very disappointed when they wouldn't even consider insuring the van.
