I've just received notification that our caravan insurance has been declined by the Camping and Caravan Club's underwriters. No reason was given.

They've been insuring it for the last 6 years.

I know that this is is a motorhomer forum but I also know that some of you/us inhabit both worlds (i.e. have a van and a caravan.)

And, perhaps, we may not be alone in having it declined?

Our caravan is stored in Portugal when not being used (in Portugal) and this might be the reason.

Can anyone suggest an alternative insurer - given the fact that it's not stored in the UK?

Meanwhile I'll start searching myself.

Thanks - in advance.

I am not surprised that they won’t insure if it is permanently abroad 🤔 has it always been and did they know 🤔

Good luck reinsuring, I would think you might need to insure it with a Portuguese company maybe 👍

We had some trouble with a caravan stored in Spain years ago - long story short, SAGA cancelled our insurance when I just asked if I could store the caravan abroad! Left us in the lurch, but Tower insurance came to the rescue! Don’t know if it’s still the same, but worth asking Tower, as they were very helpful, & didn’t mind as long as it was in secure storage.

UK insurers have generally approached continental storage as acceptable for caravans, but declined cover for motorhome storage abroad.

As the OP suggested, the C&CC's underwriters may have had a change of mind on that score - I'm surprised a reason hasn't been provided. I'd have thought it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask the Club to investigate on your behalf.

It might be worth trying the Caravan & Motorhome Club and see what they say - believe they used to be OK with overseas caravan storage.

After much searching, we found a broker who managed to arrange cover for secure storage of our motorhome indoors close to Alicante airport. The broker was Advance: https://www.advanceinsurance.co.uk/ and in our case the underwriter was Ageas: https://www.ageas.co.uk/

Might be worth talking to Advance Insurance if you don't have success elsewhere? Good luck in any case! (y)
