We were pleased to find an infotainment system on our 2011, Tribute 665-157 but after two months, have not managed to make it work as we expect it should!

It’s an Android based unit but the only handbook we have seems to be for a different model. We can use the radio, having reset the preset stations, the reversing camera is great but we cannot get it to work as a Satnav nor can we get traffic announcements to interrupt the radio.

Has anyone else got one of these? If so, can you give us any information on how to get the best out of it or perhaps lend us a manual?

Many thanks

ps you will not get traffic until you have installed a sat nav program

Hi Lofty
Not sure how to install a satnav program but from my reading, looks as though I may need an android phone to do this - we use iPhones!

On our old Mondeo, we had traffic announcements on the radio but no satnav and expected the same on this unit. It has a TA button but when pressed, it scans all frequencies until it finds one then stays with that station, usually Spirit FM, a local commercial station.

Think I may need to beg, borrow or even buy an android phone and go from there!

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

I took mine out & fitted one with a known makers name on it. That resolved all the problems.

Chinese android clone, can you create a mobile hotspot with your phone? if so then go into settings select the network menu and connect the radio to the hotspot. Next go into google play (appstore) and find a satnav to install I find waze good and its free download note with waze you will need to tether the phone to the headunit while driving.

Are there any model numbers or names on the unit ?
The traffic interrupt is as you say not gps linked but a feature of RDS radios..
It is quite possible it is simply not rigged to deliver the service, but a make and model might reveal all :-)

With our Chinese headunit, I got close enough to the house that I could paired it with our house broadband which meant I could then access the internet and via the Google Play Store I downloaded Copilot and the 3gig of European maps. With this big download out of the way I then paired the headunit with our Huawei 5577 MiFi which with then picks up the Copilot travel information while on the move.

Many thanks, everyone. I did try tethering to my iPhone but didn’t seem to get anywhere, maybe I need an android phone (which I’m hoping my granddaughter can supply!)
Inserting an SD card sounds a great idea, I will have a look on eBay as you suggest - CoPilot looks as though it might be the one to get.
Thanks again, will let you know how I get on.
