When we imported our last van (2018), I used Adrian Flux as they were the first company I came across that would insure on a chassis number until the van was registered and had a UK registration number. Possibly looking at importing again but not for 12/18 months and was wondering if any members had experience of insuring on a chassis number with other companies? (Comfort, Safeguard etc.) For a number of reasons I'm looking to change from Adrian Flux to Comfort for our current van, but have not had the chassis number conversation with them yet.

Try Caravan Guard, they were the only one I could find in 2019. They were also expensive!

We did in 2018 with AIB fully comprehensive on the VIN number.

But ours was second hand and a smidgeon over 30 grand. I have insured with them ever since.

NFU did it for us. Still had the previous motorhome as well so came up with a deal that also insured them both for a short while.

We were 2018 as well and about 33K. I've stuck with Flux until now, but they are getting a bit funny about upping the insurance value. Exactly the same model/year/mileage as ours is going for Euro 49,000 at the moment!

Anybody used Comfort with just a VIN? Thanks for responses to far, really helpful.

Why not just give Comfort a call then you'll at least get current info?
Good shout! I just don't want to sit through the 20 minute wait to speak to a human, one who probably won't know what I'm on about! Besides I get a better unbiased range of ideas on here. I'll have to speak to them at some stage though.

I should've said that Comfort have been very good in my experience - answer quickly, no buttons to press and well-informed staff.

Comfort won't do it, last time I imported I used Safeguard but that was 5 years ago. You could try Scenic (sister company to Safeguard) I've used them. I've also used NFU but I don't think they will do it for new customers now.

In 12/18 months European C of C may not be reckonised so you may need an IVA test. Only a few centres & it can take a month or more to get a test.

Yes, had the same. It's the period between getting it to UK and receiving the registration number/documents that some insurance providers struggle with.

Thank you Lenny, very helpful. I'll give the ones you mentioned a whirl. I am a bit concerned about the possibility of the CoC not being valid in future. Ironically I live about 50 minutes from Southampton where there seems to be two IVA test centres, the next nearest are in Gillingham and near Hayes.
