Hello looking for recommendations.
I have recently been unwell (hopefully only short term) and have been advised to inform dvla and insurance .
No problem with doing that but im pretty sure the insurance will cancel my policy when notified. So i was wondering if maybe anyone who's been in a similar situation might have recommendations for specialist insurance to just cover the van for fire and theft. I have just put the van on sorn and have had a look to see what's available but there doesn't seem to be a lot.
Any help/advice etc would be greatly appreciated.
Colin.

You used to be able to get a policy for laid up vehicles but I think they stopped that.

Personally I wouldn’t worn the vehicle and not tel insurance.

You won’t be driving it and on insurance it says fit to drive.
Again it won’t be driven.

Our van is worn at the moment but still with a full on policy.

I don't know why your insurance would be cancelled, nor why you have to tell them, especially as you have no intention of driving it so just regard it as a policy to simply protect your investment. As for the DVLA, sometimes it's mandatory to inform them I believe but you need to check if your situation requires you to do that or not, a recommendation is just that, not a stipulation.

Regarding SORN, if your MH is off the road you might as well SORN it and save the tax - we do this between our holidays and it's surprising how much it can add up to over the year even though we're on the 'cheap rate' over 3.5t category.

I would just keep the van insured and renew it once it comes up for renewal.
Sorn the van until your medically clear.
Can you divulge what the issue is as folks on here with similar issues can most probably help you steer in the right direction

Thanks everyone for the information. I think I have enough now to decide my way forward. Always good to get others perspective on things.
Much appreciated 👍
