If you are going to the CMC Baltic Wharf site

That’ll take some fixing! It’s not clear from the video, but seems access is blocked from the Cumberland Basin side, so will need to approach from Temple Meads side?

You can see the office/loo block for the campsite next to the boat house so the slippage is almost outside the gate :(

They have recently completed extensive works along there for the Metro bus route. Shame they didn't check that wall!

I cannot find anything on the C&MC website so if visiting it’s best to ring up. However the road itself is not affected and there seems to be a MH leaving the site in this photo so I assume some sort of controlled access.
I live on the Frome further up river and locally there was a landslip last week blocking a road that drops down to the river and it has just re opened after a very long closure for wall repairs. This time the foundations of a house exposed. Thankfully we are on a flat bit well above the river although our garden drops down to the Frome Valley path.

That picture looks very much like the road is closed blocking access from the west, so anybody coming in from the motorway network might be best using the M32 into City Centre.

According to traffic reports it is closed both ways but there must be some sort of residents access set up as there are businesses and flats all along the road. It doesn’t say how on any of the updates I’ve seen.

We’ve just come from there, defo closed, in fact a lot of the cars getting caught out used the site as a turn around! Regarding availability, we got a week booked at the beginning of Jan. We had a good week and weather wise, wall to wall sunshine for the first part of the week and just overcast the rest.

Going on friday so will report back if still closed.
We enter from Temple Meads east of the city so fingers crossed it's ok.

Just found this on the Travelwest site:

Motorised Vehicles

To access sites between Commerical Road and Mardyke Ferry Road, including the SS Great Britain and the Baltic Wharf Caravan Sites please approach from Commercial Road direction. When you leave the site you will have to turn LEFT onto Cumberland Road.

Commercial Road is east of Baltic Wharf, so no access on A4/Portway route via Cumberland Basin.

Paul & Kate - you’re going the right way.

This came up when I checked though

My daughter lives in Bristol we joined the CMC because of Baltic Wharf (since left) so we could visit in moho managed to get in on two occasions over a ten year period because of people booking and not turning up, gave up trying and rarely take m/h to Bristol unless passing through now as we have found other places not too far away (y)

Thank you everyone for the ‘heads up’ regarding access to Baltic Wharf CMC site. I’m booked in for Tuesday and the site warden has rung me to confirm that the site must be approached from the east ie from the centre of Bristol. There is no access from the west. Thanks again.

Yeah - so much for the land being used to build a much needed primary school!
In Texas, the developers put in the roads and first schools, before any housing is started. And often a "Mall".

Baltic Wharf: Looks to me that the only way in now (from M5 North) is M4, M32, A4044, and Clarence Road?. Avoid Rush Hour then!. Used to get my `Bike kit from Fowlers (York Road) back in the 80`s.

Fowlers is still there and a prominent landmark telling you where to turn off the A4.

Would have to be Clarance Road from Temple Meads if coming from the East. Come between 11 am and 2pm.
However, an alternative from the west would be A4 from Avonmouth then go over Cumberland Basin bridge and go East along A370 to Bedminster Roundabout and then can turn back on yourself along Cumberland Road to the site.

I would likely be coming off the M5, as we did when we where there in 2019. I see your point about the A370. what's it like traffic wise?. Walked from Temple Meads Station to the SS Gt Britain once, Fully Booted and Spured, to attend an Institute Dinner on Board! the walk back was "interesting". Just made the last train out!

We were at Baltic Wharf over xmas again this year, it was very quiet, there were 8/10 spaces unused this year which came as a surprise, as we had to book to get a spot before leaving last year. Proof again that The CMC booking system is flawed with so many that had booked not turning up, wasting space for those that do and can attend. We have even booked rather optistically for 4 nights over xmas 2020, we got one of the last 3 places before leaving. If all goes ahead as per the councils plan/schedule of work then this aint gonna happen.
Expected for some time I know, but such a shame to see this CMC site go as it was a great location being on the river near to town, river taxi and buses.
When discussed "down the local pub":giggle: apparently the locals living nearby preferred that the caravan site remained, not just because it brought in new visitors, custom to local business, but that it was "less intrusive", than having even more semi high rise blocks of unaffordable homes.
When 66 "affordable" homes are mentioned, I wonder just how affordable they will be, along with position/ aspect of them, in the shadow of others, near the bins out the back springs to mind.
End of an era for us at Bristol, C"est la vie:frowny:

It’s probably a better way than the M32, the traffic along there is not too bad and better than Clarence Road which is usually queuing up to Bedminster Bridge. You also get the nicer run in along the A4 along the river.
Perennial roadworks around Temple Meads also a pain the M32 way.

It’s a tradition amongst our friends to meet up for a walk all around the harbour on New Years Day. Shame you will be gone else I would say hello. I peeked over the hedge to see if I could see any Funster stickers this year and was surprised at the number of Mohos compared to Caravans.

What`s to tell?. An excellent lunch was had by all, the Wine and Liquor flowed, hence not wishing to drive!, The speaker was very knowledgable about the construction and working life of the Gt Britain, and her Recovery from The Falklands, back to her eventual resting place. Afterwards we did the usual "lamp swinging" as is the wont on such ocasions. The walk back to Temple Meads involved negotiating the assembled rubbish that was there back in the early 90`s. and ruined my "best" shoes!, took 2 wrong turns, and a detour into some pub, and caught the return train to Yeovil by the skin of!, where I was greeted by "management" with "well that looks like it was a good day out"!..

Yes, it will be a loss, but as others have said, most of the time it was fully booked anyway so only really accessible to the early and the organised, which excludes me! Sadly, the CMC Crystal Palace site faces a similar fate. :( This “affordable homes” nonsense has become a passport for developers to build where they wouldn’t otherwise be permitted to, including ‘areas of outstanding natural beauty’!

We were at Baltic Wharf last week (came back to Ciren on Wednesday 22nd), and we looked at some of the ‘affordable’ places currently on offer - but I don’t see how £225,000 for a 1-bedroom flat is in any way ‘affordable’! Perhaps I’m assuming that ‘affordable’ means that those without a lottery win could afford to buy.....?

Hi I arrived at Baltic Wharf today. Being on my own I rely on Sat Nav which of course directed me around the city to approach the CAMC site from the west ( for normally good reason!) So I winged it through the city to approach from the East to avoid the road closure. I went over Princes Street Swing Bridge but BEWARE it has a 3 ton weight limit and a width restriction (7 ft?). My small PVC was ok but larger MOHOS must go another route, Redcliffe Bridge? Any locals got any other advice?
Good luck.
