I was told that they were illegal as they pinch the frequency some European satellite, but never meet anyone who’s been stop.
Just enjoy it you get itv and bbc and others all over Europe
There are actually several boxes that will do this though the Icecrypt is the most widely known. They connect to a satellite called intelsat 907 and get signals intended to provide a backup in the UK for the freeview service. They are encrypted and you need a BISS key to decrypt them. It used to change regularly but it hasn't for several years. You can get a picture with a sixty cm dish in most places though it can degrade easily in heavy rain. As this is a private encrypted service it is technically illegal to access it but I have not heard of any one being done. It does mean though that you get no help setting up from the manufacturers and suppliers of adapted boxes tend to be small operators. The rapid growth of IPTV in it's various forms and easier access to good mobile internet mean that support for this is falling away rapidly, and it is now mainly in the hands of enthusiasts who can set up the boxes
