Hi I have finally got rid of my old windows 10 pc and bought a refurbished Del with windows 11. So far everything has gone well. I removed the hard drive from the old pc and got a lead from Amazon to connect it as an external hard drive but it will not work, I already use an external hard drive to save everything and that is working well. I have seen cradles for about £25 are they better than the lead for about £5.50 that

I have tried?

Looking at your setup (unless I cannot see it in picture) a 3.5 inch hard drive will require a power supply to run externally.

the adapter you have would probably power a laptop drive direct, but a 3.5 inch drive will need an adapter with a power supply.

def not getting enough power, get a decent cradle or a lead with external power as they are more reliable than what you have purchased and with external power ensures the drive is getting the correct amount. Even an external enclosure would work

3.5 inch usually need 10w of power or more

As you can see I an no expert on this  I have got a refund on the lead and been told I can keep it, so I will have to pay more to get a cradle :frowny:
You can buy similar lead, but it will need socket for power supply, on E Bay you can buy lead with power socket and use your own power lead (cheaper) or buy lead supplied with power adapte.

Is there not a spare slot inside your new pc that you can just plug your old drive into? My current pc has 3 spare slots for sata drives. If you have enough knowledge to take the old one from your pc you have enough to put it into your new pc.

That hard drive needs +12V and +5V to run. Your usb connection only supplies +5V. Either get a 2.5" hard drive which will run with that adapter or get a different adapter with an external power supply.

Second the extra spare slots inside the new PC case

dells are built to a budget and seldom have any space for extra drives as said i would try a powered cradle
