Well they say things come in 3s. Firstly my oil light came on in van with a change oil message then can symbol several hundred miles later. Still to find a garage to change it. Next while steaming veg the blind frame behind cooker melted, and now I’ve a cracked rear corner end and I’m positive I haven’t reversed into anything. No scratches or dirty marks but a dirty old spring wedged up inside where the crack is. Anyone any ideas as to what’s happened and any recommendations for a repair place in Spain?

Easily said but my advice is to ‘crack on and chill’ as what you have posted is important but not life threatening or likely to bring the van to standstill, we get on the road in our very expensive Morelo (like all vans) and it constantly throws up challenges, you just get used to it and each time learn what the fix is! Relax and enjoy your trip (whilst fixing things on the way).

Can’t help with the melting plastic, that’s you own fault…😉 but I think the spring is a red herring and could have been thrown up from the road and quite possibly be the cause of the cracks…. They will be easy enough to fix for any competent person…

So don’t fret and go out for dinner more to save the rest of the van….😆☺️

I can only recommend checking and changing your oil asap, that was the first signs of our impending breakdown back in June. It's since had a new turbo, oil pump, DPF and all sorts of pipework and filters. In our case the oil was so full of diesel it damaged the oil pump and caused the turbo to seize all caused be the dpf being blocked.
Check your oil now, before its too late. We had fresh oil and filters the week before we left for North West Spain. Sorry to be gloom and doom but it's cost us over £3000 so far just because we ignored the check oil symbol. Its a simple task.

And always carry white and black insulating tape. Couldn’t have done our last trip without them to stick bits we broke back on🫢
I noticed the person parked beside us had damaged his rear corner so I cheekily asked him for some, so it’s stuck for now. (y)I’ve managed to source a window frame part so just got the oil to get changed, hopefully on Monday with any luck.

Running repairs are just part of having a motorhome.
Having a older van also helps dealing with the odd scuffs.
We had an encounter with a pallet on the way to the ferry last week. We survived relatively unscathed :giggle: in a newer vehicle I would have been very upset.
There are always things to repair or improve

Second day of 9 week trip we drove over a “cardboard box” on Belgian motorway. Took off the grey waste pipe. But grey waste just came out of another orifice for rest of trip… 🫤 it’s part of the adventure 🫢

I don't understand the oil thing. Surely you get the oil change when it is serviced and wouldn't go on a trip if it needed a service?

If it is just low on oil I'd get some and top it up. Keep an eye on it as there might be a reason it's low. Then get it all looked at when you get back.

On a Fiat the dash has two read outs when next service due & how long the oil life has left, both in miles.
Oil life depends on how the van has been driven and it's often a lot less that when the next service is due

The oil is not low ,was changed when I had the timing belt done in April 23 , about 11000 miles ago I’m guessing. I’ve since read the light has came on as it was close to 30000 miles. Admittedly I should have got it done before leaving.

I think I’d accept the corner being broken more if I’d done it but the maddening this is I didn’t. That bloody big spring did wherever and however it got wedged is a mystery.

Can I assume your basing its level on checking with a dip stick ( engine ) one

On a 2013 x250 model ( and presumably others) the oilcan symbol means the engine thinks the oil has reached the end of it's life. If you don't replace it within 500 km it will go into a limited limp mode, and another 500km into full limp mode.I think these numbers are correct...(it's in the owners manual). How do I know this???...it happened to me in Norway but I knew the oil had done less than 3,000miles.
There are instructions on You Tube for cancelling the red can sign which will eliminate the limp mode risk. This involves throttle and brake pedals and ignition key....easily done at the side of the road!!!! Hope this may help if you can't get oil changed quickly and are confident you have enough oil in the engine and, there is no contamination in it..eg water or fuel.

If the garage hasn’t reset the computer when the oil was last changed you can reset it yourself.
To reset the oil change message on most Fiat Ducato models, turn the ignition to the on position (do not start the engine), fully press and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor, then press and release the brake pedal a set number of times (often six or seven), and finally hold the accelerator for at least a minute before turning the ignition off. The exact number of brake pedal presses may vary by model year, so it's best to consult your vehicle's owner's manual if this method doesn't work.

Worked for me.

I have a weird quirk on our 2015 Peugeot
When I put it in cruise control the ABS light comes on- goes off when cruise is disabled
Has anyone else enjoyed this quirk?

On the way to The Red Shoot Campsite in the new Forest where I, due to multiple traffic accidents, arrived at site with fried clutch after about 8 miles of stop/start. ( this was a last minute respite break for 3 days as Wife and I are unpaid carers for my Mother-in-law and an Aunt , both with Dementia.
Now on a site with no phone reception, but have a Falcon router attached to MH, now sorting logistics about me staying with MH, and getting Wife and dog back home , whilst trying to organise breakdown/ delivery to a garage, that’s open on a Saturday What’s that smell? That’s the Clutch dear!!

Our grey water pipe was severely bashed and got holes when being towed to a garage earlier this year. Top tip white gorilla contact glue fixes the leaks fantastically. A bit ugly but does the job.

Sorry about the popcorn, fat thumbs. Hopel all goes well.

Slight cracked our bottom bumper pod on a steep sloped camp in Italy. Patched up inside the pod with Gorilla tape and hardly noticeable now - that was 3 years ok and after a few quotes of over £250 for a new pod we are quite happy with our "battle scar"

I had something similar on previous van. Had to have the LEDs in the speedo panel replaced.

On our way to the ferry in April we hit a yard brush on the M25, checked at the ferry and all looked ok until I went to empty waste the following day. It had knocked the pipe out of a 90degree bend, managed a temporary fix until we got home 8 weeks later then fixed.

That's on the new one. Wasn't sure which model the OP had. I'm not convinced all the electronics are that accurate but even if they are a 1000 miles or so isn't going to make a lot of difference. Prior to this tech Fiat were happy with 2 years or 30,000 miles between oil changes.

What the light means and what effect it will have on the engine operation I don't know as I have not experienced this on my motorhome with us clearly a but newer than yours. You are over 2 years between services so that could be the issue. However, if you have only done 11,000 miles personally I wouldn't be to worried about the quality of the oil. On that aspect I'd make sure you have enough in and carry on. The concern is whether the engine goes in to limp mode at some point because of the warning light. No idea if this would be the case.

Do you have anything plugged into your OBD socket in the van?

I had a digital dash readout plugged into to my OBD socket (so speed could be easier to read), and that gave me odd dash lights, and stopped my cruise control working whilst it was plugged in. Removed it all good.

Just a thought.

It’s just life…..
2025 motorhome, all shiny and new…. 3 miles from home and a stone cracked the windscreen…. Possibly too big to repair…
On the last trip out in Cornwall, a car did rub down the drivers side as he was too impatient to wait for me to pass….of course he never stopped, and a little bit of polish removed the marks.
The more you use it, the more likely that something will happen, but concentrate on the great fun and memories you are making.

I reset t the oil can symbol the day that it came on thanks to ChatGPT, the exact same method that others have described here. Still want to get it changed now for peace of mind. Past posts on here sure helped me pinpoint when it was last serviced. 👍 The mileage I’m guessing as I know we do usually between 5-7k a year.
