MH
Hymer A class
Hello all,

I've joined the forum to try and help my partners mother figure out what to do about sorting out her Hymer, as she wants to sell it, hope this is ok.

She's not the most internet savvy with forums etc. so just trying to help her figure out what's best to do. Please bear with me, as obviously I know nothing about MH's, am just hoping people may be able to kindly advise so we can figure out what is best to do.

She's had a MH enthusiast/mechanic have a look over her vehicle, but he is very hard to get hold of and seems to be too busy to get anything done.

She has a 2002 Hymer, B classic, A class, coach built (that is all she told me)

Apparently it needs:

All new tyres (incl spare)
Leisure battery
Exhaust
Something to do with reboring radiator

The guy said the rebore would need to be done by a specialist. We can't seem to find out much about this, as reboring seems to be more to do with the engine than radiator from a bit of googling - it is possible she misinterpreted what the guy told her, but he basically said it's not safe to drive without sorting this out.

What we ultimately want to do is figure out:

How much it would be worth as is.
How much it will cost to sort out all issues.
How much it will be worth if issues are sorted.

I can post in a different section of the forum to get feedback on value if need be, but thought this might be a good place to get to the bottom of what the reboring might involve and what to expect to pay.

Also, would be good to get an idea of what to expect to pay for tyres, exhaust, and leisure battery, as presumably this will not be the same sort of prices as a standard car.

Thanks

Adam

Ps, I don't know what current mileage is, waiting to hear back on that.

I would imagine this is very likely the case. Thought it might have been a misinterpretation.

Hi and welcome.
Good luck with the sale, you will find all the help you need here. There is a very good classified section on here.I am not sure but think you have to be a paid up member to do this.
Could be well worth it though.
Personally the jobs and things needed are not massive so running and with an MOT make it more saleable,if possible to do that.As said record is the correct term methinks, good luck with everything.

Thanks. With the recore, it seems like it may be tricky to find someone to be able to do it? She lives rurally near Lockerbie, nearest city would be Carlisle, which isn't very big. Not sure of the chances of finding anyone nearby to be able to do it? Also, it would have to be transported on a flat bed for this...

Rather than recore a complete new radiator may be a better option. Certainly quicker as it just a case of swapping them over and refilling/bleeding the water. Radiator will be around £60.

Oh try Coastal motorhomes in Ringwood, they do mail order.

Unless the radiator is leaking, he may have said that the radiator needs recoring as they can block up with silt over long periods of time, however, he may just be being cautious. Locally this company do radiator servicing http://www.cumbriaradiators.co.uk/ but you would need to get the Hymer to a garage in the first place.

I'd have thought 1200 to 1500 should sort out those problems and pay for a full valet if needed.
I think the important one is to get it mot'ed to obtain best price.
Put some photos on here with more information and I'm sure you will get a guide to reasonable asking price

face book has a couple of groups Classic Hymers & Classic Hymers Technical that may be able to help as they are specific to those vans🤔

Have found these lot since posting, will let her know, but new rad sounds easier. Then can get everything else fixed, do MOT and get it valued etc. thanks

Thanks for that. Seems like it will be well worth sorting issues first, getting MOT, then can get a value.

Cheers, will see about that, but if a new rad is only about 60quid, then hardly seems worth the hassle, unless there's some weird reason that a recore would be the only option. Will pass on the feedback to her, and let her decide what to do.

Thanks very much for the advice everyone, all seems very sensible, cheers.
