Hi all
Have been having a problem with Zenec radio/navigation system - no sound. Second time this happened. Have tried rebooting by holding on/off switch down and resetting to factory settings but no luck. Travelworld resolved first time but hoping for some Funster pearls of wisdom. Best wishes Paul

Probably best to cut your loses and buy a decent stereo the Zenec have a terrible reputation.

Thanks Lenny - I had actually been thinking that - can anyone recommend a good supplier?

Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, the usual. Sony has stuff that looks interesting as well.

I’ve had loads of trouble with sound on ours I found it was the Carsten DSP that caused the problem so I have taken it out however I’m still having problems with getting the tv sound to work through the speaker system.
I will be purchasing a new head set when we get back from this trip not decided what yet though??

ARS24 biggest audio supplier in Germany often a lot cheaper than the UK. When I bought my Clarion from them it was over 20% cheaper than UK prices but does depend on the exchange rate.

Is the problem with all sound or is it possibly when when only playing certain media connections? If we stream Spotify from our phones then we often have to turn the volume up on the phone before we hear anything on our Zenec.

As far as I could make out on ours anything going through the DSP (digital signal processor) was affected and no sound ?

Interesting to read this. We have a Zenec system in our Dethleffs and I thought, now probably mistakenly that it was a top end product. However, we have had no issues apart from those I have created myself! It seems to be a complex unit to set up and there are hidden menus within menus and it's easy to disable something in error.

We are getting no sound from any of it - phone, satnav, radio. It’s actually been not working more than it has been! Grr!

German manufacturers buy from German suppliers, same with the TV's most German manufacturers fit those crap Alphtronics TV's even Concorde & Morelo.

Amplifier problem? Are you able to play tv through van speakers? Our old Hymer had a independent Caratec amp/dsp in o/s foot well allowing tv and head unit through van speakers. Had an issue with that in early stage of ownership preventing sound to speakers.

From reading all the replies I have worked out that I am not technical enough! DSP / amp and caratec - i don't know if I have any of them! I remember having an issue when we first collected the van whereby the TV sound was coming through the van speakers but there was a lot of feedback. Travelworld appeared to fix that by separating the two - TV sound through the TV all other bits (radio / satnav / telephone) through the van speakers. Sounds like that may have been the easy option? Or perhaps symptomatic of an underlying issue?

This was the offending article giving me grief.

We also had a Zenec in that van. It was fine. Did what I expected. Map updates were a bit more awkward.

Sounds like Travelworld didn't know what they were doing so disconnected the TV from the media centre amp and left you with crap TV sound.

I recently drove my van with its Zenec switched on for over 10 miles before the thing decided to make any sound. This included no sat nav instructions, no radio and no USB audio. It did this again a couple of days later. It appears to be working OK now.

Probably a bit like its owner - temperamental

The problem with the DSP is that there are no instruction manuals or anything about them in any of the documents that come with the van and coupled with the over complicated Zenec head unit they are a right pain in the arse?
If dealers can’t sort it via suppliers etc we don’t have a lot of hope of getting to the bottom of it??

Isn’t your van a Hymer too? Could still be the dsp giving issues. I had to prove it to the dealer cos they didn’t know anything about the dsp or even where or what it was.

Ours was a bit like that before it went completely tits up and the DSP is on passengers side behind the panel a bugger to get at?

Useless as SatNav and very hard to make work. Thankfully someone on Fun let on about the separate sound control for SatNav and radio. If you accidentally turn down the radio/usb sound when the SatNav is speaking you have turned down the SatNav and have to guess when it would speak again to turn up the sound. Often re-sets itself so Media button doesn’t work and as for the blaring radio whenever you start the van.. Overall quite stressful. Updating the SatNav took an afternoon. Hymer should have known better than to fit this. When I am flush it is going to be replaced. Had to use it all day today negotiating closed roads around Trier and it was awful. Thanks OP for giving me a chance to rant!

I've got a Zenec unit in a Dethleffs. No problems with sat nav or its updates.

Radio however seems to be absolutely crap! Drifting channels, no channels, blaring sound sometimes.

I thought it may be the aerial but never had a chance to investigate yet.

When streaming Spotify via an Android as other poster mentioned the source volume needs to be upped otherwise no sound at the head unit.

I have to disagree on this I have had three Concordes all with Alphtronic TV’s and never had a problem great picture from all angles 2/3 hdmi connections etc ,totally reliable.

Not been impressed with any of the ones I've seen. Concorde I expect use a top of the range one and probably better than the standard offering.

Hello

We have a problem with our Zenec ZE3715 that the original SD card is missing that came with the unit.
This card has a file attached that has license number so you can purchase new maps.
Without the original SD card the Naviextra toolbox will not let you purchase if you not use this original SD card
in the computer
Our Burstner was fitted out with this unit in Germany and what happened to the card we do not know.
Does any of your forum readers find a way of updating their unit without the original card or getting a new license
for their unit for Zenec We do not have the best support from Zenec at this stage

Regards
