I'm asking for a freind.
He has a Hymer Exsis 1 and the drivers door step would not retract yesterday.
We've not really had a good look yet but it'll need to be retracted before he moves off.
Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, what are the possible causes? We're just looking for a starting point in trying to fix it before we start taking things apart, or at a push, to manually retract it and zip tie it in until he can get it looked at properly.

Here's a couple of pictures of the offending step:

Similar but hab door in my case 2 days before the ferry. Tied it up the same and will look at it later. Some very helpful replies here.

Thanks for the link.
I think Tom's problem may be different to yours, it just stayed out with no motor running on after it deployed. I'm thinking maybe a micro switch somewhere not working. His Hymer is a 2015 plate.

Thought I would bump this thread. ?

That's too vague as it could be 'anything' and my crystal ball doesn't seem to be working either. ;)

Unless someone knows of a common fault with these he'll just have to check the electrical side (fuse, microswitch, corroded connections etc,) with a meter.

limit switch or blown fuse most likely if the motor wont run

It was my hope that it's a common fault! Which is why we haven't taken anything apart yet, otherwise I would be using my own crystal ball. ?
The list of fuse, micro switch etc is where we'll start if there's no one with a better suggestion. A little time for others to read the thread and who knows? ?

Just to update, the problem step is now working again.
We pushed the step back in manually and this we think has reset a stuck micro switch.
Hopefully anyone else with the same problem will find this thread. ??

Trouble with the Hab door steps is that they are usually in a spot to catch a lot of road dirt.

When our step plays up it's usually the wiring on the back of the switch. Usually caused by too much crap in the man drawer.

My new MH had a problem with the motor running very slow , sometimes having to push it back in , the mechanisms seemed reasonably loose BUT I just sprayed DW40 on it and all is well now

I have the same problem. The step is not used enough and gets stiff so the electronics think it has retracted, lubricate liberally and use often, after all delivery driver would be in and out all day long.

On examining the step, the cover for the motor etc is open on the forward facing side. I'm guessing the step is the same as the ones on hab doors on the right side on European Vans.
They should really either make an extra cover or design one specifically for the left side.

Wow Hymers go wrong and I just thought it was our German van! It could be dirty contacts on the relays, take off connections and clean, or shite on the extending bars (powerwash off grit) or a loose wire or bad earthing. I know it does not cure your problem but it will be one of the above
