hi does anyone know if a hpi check details the damage on a vehicle, i have been watching a category n vehicle, looks to have paintwork damage but cant see anything else much in photos, tried contacting seller but no reply as yet

I don't think the operators of the HPI service even (need to) see any of the vehicles. Why should they? It's merely a finance statement not a vehicle condition/valuation service.

I'd be very surprised if they had any records. Your only hope is via the sellers.

Category N basically means cosmetic (i.e. non structural) damage that is severe enough to write off the vehicle. It could be very minor on an old vehicle. On a newer vehicle, it would have to be pretty extensive.

Have a look at a vcheck.co.Uk

here is an example - links are in the FB page for dodgy cars, salvage pictures at the bottom

If it is recorded then this will usually show day, date ,damage + photos. also checks in multiple countries & can be used with registration of chassis number

Another vote for car vertical. If it’s a ‘CAT’ car that is has been subject to an insurance write off of any category it will be logged on their data base.
Remember insurance companies write off some vehicles particularly older ones for many frivolous reasons. Generally a cat car should be 25% less than normal value.and if it’s been properly repaired can offer good value.
