I've just caught 2 Red Admiral butterflies in my bed room. WTF did the wee fellows come from?
Sadly I think I just killed them with ignorance masquerading as kindness.

They came indoors to hibernate until spring. I had one in my utility room. Leave them be.

Really? I thought they were migratory and headed south to Africa.

We had a resident red admiral in our lodge, so when the heating was on, it'd spring to life & have a wee flight around the room.
Beautiful thing & it left in the spring.
