Hi All,

I am in the process of buying a Debon box trailer, for among other things, transporting and storing our e-Bikes. I have been searching for the best way of keeping them solidly in the trailer and obviously will use ratchet straps to the in built tie down rings. But it seems to me the best solution is to add a wheel chock, or bike rack, like you get when you go to a supermarket. See attached photo.

I was wondering if anyone had a better idea or could upload a photo of what they have done.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards

Something like a fork mount and rails would be more solid.

Hi Chipster, thanks for your comment. That would entail removing the wheel. Alas you cannot do that on a number of e-bikes, which includes the ones we are in the process of buying.

We have done what you suggested in the top photo but reverse the bike in so it is in a stronger position before using straps on either side of the frame for stability.

What bikes are you looking at as all wheels need to come off to change tires so the option Chipster suggested are more secure than I am using but couldnt be bothered with the faff of removing the wheels.

When I used a box trailer the bikes went in first and they had nowhere to go as they were wedged in by all the other stuff.

Hi Orridge,

Many thanks.

Will soon be buying VanMoof probably X3's. Just getting a test ride sorted with an existing owner who has the S3 and X3.

I get the reversing in. My view would be to include some high density foam to trap the wheel as well.

Thanks Mikeco,

Ha ha! No we would never have that much in it. The idea is to easily be able to get in and get the bikes or anything else.

How about a framework of 3x2 timber bolted together 4 transverse in front/behind of each wheel. And another 4 either side of each wheel?

Using wing / thumb nuts to take apart easily.

Then a webbing strap at saddle height wrapped several times around seat post to stop side ways movement.

Just a thought.

Cheers James

Sorry but you have to able to move the wheels otherwise you could never change a tyre. I have never known a bike, Ebike or not that you can not remove the wheel.

I should have said, it is a very complicated job. Not something you would do lightly and certainly not for this purpose.

The problem is the motor is in the front and there are a number of components to be removed as well as a security spanner.

They come with puncture proof tyres.

The Cowboy range , you really cannot remove the wheels, so you take out an annual contract and if you get a puncture which is very rare they will come and replace it from a local support person wherever you are.

Strange but true!

For many years in various vans and trailers I have used these to hold bikes steady during transit. Multiple sizes are available.

Just fasten the handle to the downrail and clip the bikes in.

Thank you PhilMary,

Not sure I fully understand. Are you buying the two products? Any photos?

I only needed one clamp for the mountain bike. Metal strip with holes in bent to suit, one end screwed to a downrail, the other fastened to the clip screws or zipties. Put bike next to clamp and open clamp around suitable part of the frame.

Interesting-looking bikes look great.

You would need to measure the tires to make sure they would fit into the racks but probably should and suggest carrying some tools to remove the wheel should you need to for punctures etc.

Thanks Orridge,

When in Spain a few weeks back I had a go on a Flyer from a guy next to us. I loved the Gates Carbon Drive instead of a chain and was keen to get a couple. However I gave up after getting to 6000+ euros each! I thought for our limited use 12,000+ euros for two bikes was just a little over the top!

Found another.

I think your original suggestion wouldn’t give enough support especially for an e bike.

If you do a Google search on "wooden ebike stands" and look at "Images", you get a good selection of ideas a few of which I've created bespoke versions of. With basic DIY skills you could make something made to measure pretty easily

Thank you everyone, very pleased I asked on here. Some excellent suggestions which also lead me to this Halfords offering at very silly money. Will have to go look at one and see if it appears strong enough.

Yes something like that with some decent straps around the wheel to hold it in place should do the trick.

Thanks Chipster.

Will report back how strong it is when I get the chance to pop into Halfords. At £20 each, it is a bit of a no brainer, if of course it is good enough.

Obviously I will be using straps to in built anchors in the trailer. Won't know if that is the best solution until I get the trailer. One guy in Spain explained that I would probably be better putting more anchors in. So that is a possible option as well.

Hi Orridge, that is the same one as my original post and mine was less than that from the main dealer!
