We have 16x225x70 tyres and the recommended tyreweld for 15/16” is the 400g can. I have asked Holts via email for a calc for this recommendation ie 15/16” x 195, 205, 215??
If the 400g is adequate for the 15” then how much lower is the 16” going to be when the can runs out of puff??
I’m sure their calc isn’t based on a 225 tyre? I asked if the 500g (17”) would be better for our tyre size...They stick to their recommendations.
Before I get the calculator out and start
V=(Ԉr²)(2ԈR) where R is the major radius and r is the minor radius. Ԉ is pi. and bothering Michelin...any views out there?

I was ok until just after the tyre size then my head imploded!

Yes mess and calc accepted, Thanks it’s appreciated. But dead weight, garage dominating spare tyre or tyreweld? I’ll sleep on it.

Perhaps just carry a spare tyre and let your breakdown cover fix it🤔

I would rather rely on a spare wheel that will get you out of trouble, than Tyreweld that was rubbish when I used it in a motorcycle tyre.

There are lots of threads on this type of thing.
It's very much a personal thing whatever let's you sleep comfortably at night.
I used puncture safe for 10 plus years and I can assure you that the stories of problems with tyre fitters and repair and greatly over egged.
Nothing will stop a sidewall puncture or blowout.
I now have space for a spare ( I did not before) so I now carry a spare.

Puncturesafe supplies a graduated table for most tyre sizes.

Thank Phil, wise words my eye is on a quick get out of trouble, a blow out (been there done that) is another matter and frightening. Getting under 3.5t + in the rain is a b..l ache and scary on the hard shoulder, again been there etc. Cheers

Everyone should try and change their motorhome spare over when in the comfort of their driveway.
Then it will soon be realised that it's a job for the recovery man and personally avoided if at all possible in anger.

I am fit enough and capable enough but I will not be crawling around changing any spare tyre on our motorhome on a major road.
If you monitor your tyres correctly and regularly then there puncturesafe is likely to get you out of most situations.
Regrettably not all.
But that is the risk assessment you do and plan for.

yes it aint fun getting a spare wheel out (practiced it last month), but there is no way i would be without a spare. didnt come with one so had to sort it myself.
if you want the conveniance of possibly using a messy can what s the extra .10 quid? i may quible about an extra £5 a night but safety doesnt see £ notes in my eyes
edit agree with phil.
also just added a tyrepal sensor to my spare

Phil D, you’ve been there, I’m no hero, just reasonably fit sparky, picture this... busy road, heavy duty scissor jack (fiat offering not bottle jack) 3.5 ton wobble wobble when artic passes by...I’ll pay good money for a recovery/assistance to sort it out later. Hence my original question what size Tyreweld for a fat 16”? Messy tyre?

I have no experience of the Holts product but this is what i used look at their charts a bit down the page. its a piece of cake DIY just follow the instructions.

however they now do a puncture kit which is applied in a similar way to the GOO fiat give you but is more effective and can be left in the tyre or easily washed out and the tyre repaired.

just for interest; although I now carry a spare as i have space, i have made up a puncturesafe "emergency" puncture repair kit. i just bought enough for 1 tyre and a large syringe and a bit of tube from fleabay and put it in the jack box.

then in the event i have a puncture but cannot get suitable help or we are in too dangerous a position to wait for help i can use the puncturesafe kit as a get me out unti;l i can either get the wheel changed or get the puncture repaired. all without having to worry how long its in the tyre or restricted miles or speeds. It would be the same effect as having puncturesafe in the tyre pre the puncture, except then you would not know you had one.

i am sure others would not consider this an option but as i said first up " its what you assess as safe " having done a bit of homework..

Thanks Phil, I’ll look at that as an option. Experience of doing it for 30 years in anger with my commercials tells me to let someone else take the risks, Passing truck, failed jack and broken leg/s? has no price. Cheers

I hated driving with no spare - rear weight and space limited. I now have new tyres all round, Tyrepal, and I've managed to shove one of the old tyres in the cave at the back. Less convenient, but less risk too. I'll live (I hope) with the consequences...

G-RMPS, thanks from G-AYFC, and to all, do not underestimate the dangers of changing a tyre in less than perfect conditions, yr brave if you do? I have vv good tyres, Getting going and sorting it out safely is the only option for safety mess accepted.

This is my calculations spare left at home = 30 Kg less.
Breakdown cover = £50 pa.
If you run into bother make a brew and wait for the professionals.😂😂
