Help please - hard drive copy to TV films

I am sure I read recently how to set up copying films to an external hard drive for viewing when on tour. Problems were encountered with the different code's and at least one funster provided a link on Amazon, for a "converter" to be fitted between hard drive and tv, which I would like to replicate.

I have searched for the thread, without success, hence my appeal, can anyone advise please.
