We are very new to motorhoming and went out last week for one night. This week we are planning to go away for 2 night.. yes I know easing in just so we get to know the motorhome. Anyway, preparing today, the fridge won’t turn on. It was working last week so have no idea what can be wrong. So please help as I may have to end up taking Red wine away with me instead of white!
also the hob ignition won’t work, any solutions to these problems would be muchly appreciated.

many thanks

Is the fridge a three way. Electric, gas, battery? If so, does it not work on any of those? Sounds like it may be the 12v control panel voltage not getting there.

A bit more info will help the real experts.

Is the gas on at the main switch?

Hi, yes it’s a 3 way fridge and it does not appear to be working on any of them.

thank you

The make and model of the appliances would be a big help for us identifying a cause.

Sounds like a 12v supply problem, is the leisure battery charged? Are you trying to run the fridge on gas, 12v or mains?

Does the light come on when you open the door, and is the temp control up off lowest - probably middle best for now?

What setting have you got the fridge on, it’s only automatic if it’s set to automatic.

Make Dometic RM7401L

What lights are it on the settings switch?

i think there may be a fault on the fridge as it was only working on mains power last week, we didn’t realise it work automatically on either of the fuel types. The leisure battery is working fine and we have plugged in to the mains in prep for out trip

Sorry, but you have turned the 12v system on havent you? at the control panel

Check your fuses

Odd that the hob ignition doesn’t work either, now suspect a fuse has gone, if you are confident the battery is charging 👍

My hob ignition only works if the water pump is switched on. Not sure if this is normal.

Your fridge is manual operation only (the RM7405L has automatic setting) and it does seem it could be a fuse gone which should be on the fuse board for the Motorhome habitation side of things ,hopefully shown in the handbook , also if you get it to work ok I dont know if you are aware but it will only work on the 12v setting when the engine is running and you need to use gas when parked up (or 230v on hook up). The light on the selector should be on to indicate which source is selected.

Do you have any lights on the display of the fridge?

if not press and hold the fuel selection button it may turn the fridge on/off.

Mine only ignited etc if the power switch 12v was on so if not connected to 240v & power switch for habitation 12v not on fridge would not work & hob would not ignite. Mine was a 3 way smart system fridge.

As GeoffnDee says, your fridge is manual selection only. Some fridges have an extra setting, 'AUTO', and the control board automatically selects the power depending on whether the engine is running or the hookup is plugged in. You will have to do this manually - it's so easy to forget to switch, you'll have to be careful.

The fridge control board is powered from the leisure battery, and controls the switching of the various power sources. If all the power sources don't work, it's most likely that either power is not getting to the control board, or the control board is faulty.

So, is the 12V supply to other habitation devices working OK (water pump, lights etc). Do you have a 12V distribution/fusebox, and if so does it have a make and model number? Maybe someone will know which fuse to check.

If you have a 12v master switch and leave it switched on it will be draining down the habitation battery by each of the electronic circuits. Fridge, water and space heater control boards. We don't have any solar panels so always switch off the 12v master switch.

Probably a minor issue to solve, after all matches still exist, but a fridge needs to be fixed, and it sounds like the experts are on it; but when you get round to the hob ignition, and if the problem is not electrical, there may be a simple solution.

My hob ignition switch sits in a well, and spilled liquid finds its way into the switch. Maybe yours too? If you can get to the back of it you can disconnect the wires and push the switch out. If it is a simple rocker, it is easy to disassemble clean and dry, reassemble and reinstall. If you are not that practical, a replacement is only a couple of quid.

Good luck with the fridge.

Is the fridge working OK on the mains? If so, that means 12V power is getting to the fridge control board, and the coolant circuit is working OK. Is the problem that the fridge won't work when switched to gas?

Does it work when switched to 12V - note that it only works on 12V when the engine is running, and switches off the 12V power to the element when the engine stops.

None of the lights are on
