Morning. I’m about to install a Victron Multiplus compact 12/1600/70. My question is about the AC input side of that. The AC output side will go the existing Westfalia rcb/mcbs which protects the 3 existing ac sockets with 3 mcbs.
On the AC input side I could take that straight from the supply socket on the outside of the van and rely on there being a functional rcb in the ac supply bollard. But I would prefer to be belt and braces and have a separate mini one way dual pole rcb/mcb between the supply and the Victron. I would earth it to the same chassis stud as the existing rcb ( and indeed the Victron casing). The supply from the bollard is never going to be more than 16A so ideally the new rcb/mcb should be something like 25rcb/16A mcb. But really small box because space will be tight alongside the Victron. It may well be my Google skills but I’m struggling to find anything. Alternatively is there a dual pole rcbo in its own box that would suit? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Done a bit more googling and no joy with a 25A rcb 16 A mcbdual pole consumer unit. I have found a mini one (dual pole one way) on Amazon that is 40/16A. I may be missing something but see no reason not to go with that as my understanding of the rcb is that it’s not to provide over voltage protection but from variation in the live/ neutral in/out.So in that sense whether the rcb is rated for 25A or 40A is academic. Thanks

Bit confused as your acronym changes throughout your post but from context I assume you need a RCD not a MCB.

If you have a 25amp RCD for example and throw 40amps at it it may well overheat.
There's a reason for the different amp ratings.
Don't think I've ever seen a miniature RCD or MCB

Have you got a link to the 40/16A item you found on Amazon? If it's a 40A RCD plus a 16A MCB then it should be OK. For an RCD, the critical spec is the '30mA' or '0.03A' written on it. The 25A or 40A is merely saying it can be used in circuits taking up to 25A or 40A. Since your circuit will have an MCB limiting the current to 16A or below, that RCD will be fine.

Since that box between the inlet socket and the Victron will have only one thing connected to it (the Multiplus) you could have an RCBO (combined RCD and MCB in one device). Check that the RCBO has a 30mA (or 0.03A) imbalance trip, and a 16A (or less) overcurrent trip. Be careful though, a lot of the UK RCBOs are single-pole switching, not doiuble-pole.

Maybe try a more specialist supplier like CEF.

Sorry if I’ve been confusing with acronyms. The object of the exercise initially was to introduce a 16A mcb between the supply and the Victron. It then occurred time that if I was doing that it would make sense to have an rcb as part of a mini consumer unit as well in case there was a duff rcb at the supply bollard ( unlikely in U.K. but perhaps not elsewhere). Thought about rcbo but seem to be single pole ( again not so much of an issue in U.K. but elsewhere?). I will post a link if I can to the mini 40 A rcd / 16A mcb consumer unit on Amazon. It’s called a nano and is a small enough box. Thanks

Here is the Amazon one.

That image is a 25A (30mA) RCD with a B6 (Curve B, 6A) double pole MCB. I know sometimes the picture doesn't match the actual item, they just cut and paste a 'representative image'.

Yes , I noticed that too. The Amazon listing itself offers either 16A or 32A with 40A rcb. There is also an eBay listing for the nano unit which offers various permutations inc a 25A rcb with 6A mcb- so I’m assuming the picture is of that one! Your rcbo link looked a good one but there is the faff ( for me) of making it up on din rails in an unpopulated box , which looks as if it will be a fair bit bigger than the nano unit. Thanks
