We used Elsen blue bags in our toilet cassette. All was well until the last one out of the little pot they came in. This one must have had a split in it, as on the brief journey from the pot towards the toilet it emptied its contents all over the carpet!

Yes, I know we should probably put them into the cassette externally through the emptying spout! A lesson well learned.

We have vacuumed up as best we can, but the carpet is left with a distinctive blue tinge. I'm a bit worried that applying anything wet may make matters worse. Any suggestions how to clean the carpet would be received gratefully!

Many thanks.

I'm sorry but Elsan Blue, like other toilet chemicals, is pretty much permanent. It stains anything it touches. Best of luck.

If you touch them with wet fingers they tend to dissolve and create a hole aiding the escape of the contents.
Horrible stuff for staining so I wish you well in your quest

Thanks for the advice. I have just had an update from my wife - the one who did the task. She says she temporarily put the sachet on the vanity worktop next to the wash hand basin. And guess what? That area was a bit wet from turning the tap off with wet hands.

So, not a split in the bag, but a silly error.

Lots of lessons learned for the future :giggle:.

Try the stain devil range . The ink and dye remover might work . Worth a try .

Thanks. Will give them a try (y)

I can only think of copious amounts of water and then bleach to try and remove the stain. I doubt the bleach effect the carpet as it will be a plastic weave, not wool carpet. Try first.

The blue stuff goes nowhere near the inside of my van, it's stored in an external locker and it goes into the cassette outside the van. After you've emptied the cassette slide the slide open twist the blade mechanism open and put your chemicals or sachets in through the big hole, then twist the blade back shut and slide the slide back, all done outside.

My additive (bio wash) just goes in the emptying spout on returning to the van. It lives in the toilet locker so never goes in the van. Of course it wouldn't stain anyway.
Surprised anyone is still using blue, it is expensive, stinks, and damages some sewage systems.

That blue stuff goes nowhere near our van full stop, hate it!
we use bio clothes washing liquid fromAldi or Lidl.

We have tried the washing detergents and find they don’t work as well. We use the green sachets, yes I know they’re expensive but we don’t care. We do drop them in the loo inside the van but always keep them in the pot until inside the loo as one had split open a bit in the pot and those granules are a devil to clean up even in the shower cubicle.

No tips on removing the stuff from carpet, I think you’re stuffed I’m afraid.

Been Motorhoming for 14 years never used any chemicals but every van has had a SOG.

Not sure my SOG or thetford equivilant actually works I cant hear it running, though I am more than a bit deaf.
