Please can anyone help. We have a dometic hob in our Carthago CTourer Sport. Since picking up the van new in January 2017, we have not been able to use the middle ring without it flareing up the two small rings are fine.
The jet has been cleaned, the burner replaced, the jet replaced today at a dealers in Portsmouth, tried to cook dinner, the bl##dy thing has gone again.
Can anyone please help me find a solution, the surround on the ring at the front is burnt where it is too small to fit a pan to cook anything other than a kettle to make a pot noodle:(
Dometic themselves don't want to know :(

Try removing the black cap and see if there's any crud underneath it which could be affecting the burner.

Minxy, thank you, but they done that today again before fitting the jet.

I think if I was you I'd be asking your dealer to replace the whole hob.
I asked dometic & them too, never had an answer, the dealers where we have been taking him too are not the ones who we brought him from, but they agreed to do warranty works for us, being a main dealer and so much closer to where we live

In that case I think an email to the dealer is in order.

State that the hob has been defective since new and that the repairs carried out by them have not rectified the problem. In view of this you would now like a replacement hob fitted as soon as possible.

In instances like this I find its always best to communicate in writing so no-one can dispute things later on.

Good Luck! :)

Thank you, I think I will have to approach the dealer that we brought him from them, but will ask again at the dealers who have done our warranty work and have check too, fingers crossed

It may be that the original dealer can order the part and have it sent to the one who does the work for you ... worth asking.

@Minxy Girl-good link posted. Should find the answer there.

Yellow flame and soot means insufficient air. If other rings are OK it’s clearly a problem with the one that’s not behaving and, if parts have been replaced, it must be something that’s not been attended to (but nothing to do with common parts, like the regulator).

It’s disappointing that someone who is qualified to service such things does not recognise the problem and is unable to correct it. I think the remaining pipework may need a good ‘blow’. Not being familiar with your hob, I can only offer general advice. Some have adjustable air control. A pipe or inlet may be partially blocked with gunge or spider web.

Thank you everyone. Going to phone the dealers Monday and suggest going down the route of looking at the regulator

A reduced gas flow caused by the regulator would cause a yellow tipped low flame - nothing like a flare-up that you describe assuming it's similar to the one in the photo. It would also affect, to a lesser extent, the other burners. Turning more than one burner on would change the effect dramatically. You're not hanging a tea-towel over the air intakes are you?:)

I would caution against directing your dealer, especially as I don’t think the regulator is causing your problem. Just tell them that the hob isn’t working correctly and let them do their own diagnosis. What will you do if they change your regulator and it makes no difference?

Why not just keep the regulator?
Change the van!
:)

It has taken a year to get the burner changed, then the jet....that's after a blow through, still, the van is brilliant otherwise (y)

No tea towel in site....must be my cookin!
@rogher has it spot on I think re air flow. It's almost as if putting a pan on is suffocating it

The air inlet is normally a tube attached to jet end of the gas valve. Often there is a corresponding hole in the front of the hob.

From the symptoms I suspect there is something in the pipe/air intake serving that burner which is getting dislodged and causing the problem, either blocking the air intake or jet ... not sure how they did the 'blow through' but it doesn't sound like it was done that well, or they blew it the wrong way so the stuff is still in the system and moving about again. It could also be that the pipe has corroded internally and bits are coming off it ... if they can't sort it though it need to be a complete hob replacement.

Thanks Minxy girl.
Alan L had confirmed the jet was wrong at Peterborough show for us, the dealer we have taken it too has fitted the exact same jet as that's what dometic sent them
They did say maybe the hole had been damaged grrrr, the last people to take it apart was them.

Try swapping the jet with an adjacent one from another ring on the cooker ?

You are assuming that the dealers are in any way qualified to work on gas as many aren't and a lot that are have Mickey Mouse few day course qualifications.
As for pressure from the regulator that is the second check on the list for anyone that knows anything about gas , the first check being a tightness test before touching anything.

We are under the impression that each one is different?
New regulator should be here tomorrow, will try swapping the jets if this doesn't solve it
Thank you

To be honest, yes we did presume the dealers are competent in gas......but hey ho :censored:

If you can't sort it why not see if there's a Dometic agent in your area who can help, rather than going back to the dealer as I assume it's under warranty.

None in our area down South, we would have prefered a dometic engineer. Domestic did email me today asking for the serial number again....they did say they would rather go through the dealer previously o_O
