Just to wave at you - first overnight on the Romantic Road in Germany , in the campsite at Detwang , just up the road from Rothenburg ob der Tauber. We stayed at the Stellplatz in the town at Würzburg , despite having a 2 night booking at the Eibelstadt camp site down the road .. waste of money as you could park in just as good a site outside - and the bloke checking us in couldn’t be arsed giving us any advice about buses etc into town “ I don’t use the bus - so I don’t know “ etc … anyway there was a medieval pageant as well as the city marathon on when we arrive so chaotic - we went twice round the city and eventually got into the stellplatz - barriers were up for some reason and we had the pick of the EHU cos all the others were floating round like us, but we timed it right!! With no tickets we had to do the press button and beg for forgiveness next morning !! Isn’t life fun !! Keep safe !! Auf Weidersen

So far it’s all going well - we pre booked into a nice wee site just outside Rothenburg
( Campingplatz Tauberromantik ) but used the excellent Stellplatz in town for day parking -Rothenburg is on a high plain and walking from our camp to the town wasnt doable with the boss’s sore knee! But you have to visit !!!! - the Parkster App takes care of paying for the park space - Also used that app for parking in the nice Stellplatz in the next and for me, best town so so far - Nördlingen- don’t miss it and leave enough time to walk the walls - Chester is good but this place is beyond that - just beautiful !

We've stayed at Tauberromantik a couple of times it's quieter than the stops in Rothenburg which we preferred to all the other towns on the Romantic Road. Did you know that Nordlingen is built in the centre of an ancient meteor crater?

We were there in dec 21(at the campsite) during covid times we had the site to ourselves👍

That hill is a killer walking up to the town, the secret is DONT STOP, just keep stomping up😁😁
We like to visit Rothenburg at least once a year, it’s a kind of pilgrimage, once there we never want to leave.
We stayed in Dinkelsbuhl too on the same trip👍

We only had one other van there too, it was a great trip, just a pity Bavaria pulled their Xmas markets that year, but we did go to one in Koblenz and Gravelines on the way home👍👍

Yes - found that out last night - and the 70,000 tonnes estimated to have resulted from the impact , of micro diamonds!! The majority of which are still here imbedded in the rock they quarried to build the town

We read the comment on Search For Sites about the hill, so always planned to overnight at the campsite, but take the van up to the Stellplatz for day parking - plenty of space when we got there around 11 ish. And it’s perfectly placed to let you walk across the road and start the tour at the city walls at that big round thing ! I love the way they allow you inside to roam around without looking for money to enter

If you search for some if my posts, we found a couple of free park ups along the route ....
Enjoy, we've only done part of the route but really enjoyed it ...

Erm .. not sure how that happened ….

Sounds great. But what would you guys recommend - The Romantic Road or the Black Forest?? We are leaving Slovenia, through the Dolomites and on to Germany - eventually!!

I prefer the romantic route to the Black Forest, although the scenery might be better on the B500

B500 is stunning in terms of scenery and of course the road is a bikers paradise with its two sections of twisties out of Baden Baden followed by the long sweeping curves section.
When I was there last year though large section of it was closed off due to maintenance etc.

The Alpinstrasse followed though 🥳🥳🥳

For motorhomes though. The scenery is fantastic for both.

But we are going in the van to finish off the romantic road in September and also follow part of the Moselle.

Germany is a lovely place. Expensive though.

Both are great but depends what you want, lots of old houses and history or fewer old houses and scenery. To explore the Black Forest takes a bit of planning and zig zaging about, but if you stay where you pay the tourist tax you should get a Konus card which gives totally free bus and train travel in the whole of the Black Forest area. The romantic road is just point to point traveling no real planning needed.
