I have a bailey approach 740 se 2013. Although all power/gas is turned off the top heating control is still lit up as though its got power!! Have I done something wrong?

Switch the heating controller off . Sounds like you have just turned the habitation electrics off but not the heating.

Every van we have had there has been permanent power to the heating circuit, sounds normal to me.

You have not lived. We have Habitation Electrics with On / Off and Truma Heating Controller with On / Off .. Thats the trouble with Italians they like to keep thing simple. Also means we can have the heating on while on the move without the Habitation Electrics.
