WildAx Solaris XL
Hi my name is Jim, just collected my new camper-van a WildAx Solaris XL so new to this. Having problems with my 12v tv, it seems to be working when using sockets and in front with 12v cigarette lighter when engine is running, it’s not working of 12v battery in the living area when not hooked up.

Can you check the battery voltage? It could be the leisure battery is either discharged or weak and the voltage sags too low when the TV is trying to fire up.

Does other 12v equipment work when not on hook-up when the telly doesn't, e.g. water pump, lights..........?

Hi Guigsy, thanks for your reply, I wouldn’t know where to start, probably need a meter reader. The battery is showing full on the monitor inside the van.

It is quite common for the "TV" socket to be run with really thin cable. This causes a voltage drop and some TV's are sensitive to this

You need to read the voltage at the socket and across the battery using a multimeter set to DC volts

Maybe the socket in 'the living area' is faulty. Does anything else work in that socket?
As it's a new van have you asked the supplying dealer?

You can pick a cheap multimeter up for about 8 quid at screwfix. Will come in handy for future use too, don't worry about how to use it, you'll get lots of help on here 👍

No I’m not hooked up at the moment. Will try later thanks
It does not matter if you are not on 230v. I take it you are trying to use a 12v socket.? If live that will run from the leisure battery. As above, a multimeter will determine if there is 12v at the socket. Or are you trying to use a 230v AC socket with the tv adaptor that drops the voltage to 12v DC

But you said it doesn't work when not hooked up..........
No I’m not hooked up at the moment. Will try later thanks
so try another 12v appliance whilst not hooked up.

Check your battery monitor when the van has not been on hookup for a few hours. That will give you a truer battery state reading. Ideally use a multimeter across the terminals, again, a few hours after unplugging mains.

I presume he's not trying to run the TV from the dash 12v socket when the engine is off?
[Thinking it will be powered from the leisure battery.]
Presumably he has the hab 12v switched on
and
The 12v plug is properly pushed into the hab socket - they can be a bit temperamental, a slightly different design to the vehicle one.

Not too sure of what the issue the OP is having but if he's saying the tv works on cab 12v socket when engine is running but not on living area 12v socket when engine is running could it be that the habitation 12v power is "disconnected" when engine is running?

smithj03, what these people are saying is that you get 5 free posts when you start using this forum. If you want to post further you have to subscribe. Many people, especially starting out with a new motorhome, find it's really worth the money. Nobody on here gets a penny of that, it's all to cover the admin costs.
