Just wondered if its ok....
The service seems to be affected by tides so we wondered if it was one of those ferries where you might bottom out with a long overhang?

We will be two 7.5M motorhomes travelling mid May

We were thinking of entering or exiting the hebrideas via this route after touring the islands. Also using Ullapool for the other journey.
Uig is a bit of a trek and our friends have limited time with their hired van.

Thanks

John and Catherine

Not sure but I think @DavidG58 could have done this

I’ve used this ferry with an 8m Motorhome with no issues
Would advise booking ahead as it was full when we used it in May

It would be a new one for us, generally use Uig for shorter crossing with Lola some of these can be around 4 hours (y)

Like Mallaig though (y) much nicer than Uig

Yes crossing time might be an issue. It's 3hr30 and we have 2 dogs between us. But at least we know it's possible in the vans.
Thank you

Personally I would look at the Uig ferry option, the time on board is much less, probably quite a bit cheaper, you could go from Mallaig to Skye, Mallaig is a lovely town with a favourite café bar we use when weather allows. sitting outside langoustine and a small beer (y)(y)

The drive through Skye is pretty dramatic, IMO the best feature of the island, we have stopped on Skye a few times and don't get the appeal, but suspect those that love Skye haven't been to Harris yet :)

Another thing is the CalMac guys are really good, they have blocks of wood they bring out when the ramp is steep, they never rush you and seem to really care

We are 8.2m and use our adjustable air suspension to reduce risk of grounding, but still have caught the rear underside, although twice the crew have stopped us and produced the blocks without asking

I’m so glad you posted this. We have a house in Torridon and booked a 2 night stay on Skye .... came back after 1 night as it didn’t match Torridon area ....

We have done Skye to death and have been to Uig. We probably will end up doing Uig and Ullapool for the crossings as we suspect our friends’ dog wont tolerate the longer crossing...he is high energy.
We Love Calmac too. Brilliant company and helpful like you say(y)
Also doing Orkney on our own before our friends join us...just wish Calmac ran that crossing too. Its going to be chilly on the outside deck with the dog. :(

The Ullapool crossing is another long one, worth checking before you book, again we would return from Tarbert to Uig

2.5 hours according to the timetable. That’s fine for us. Our dog loves the Calmac experience :D2
