So, the squeaking was driving us mad at the weekend. Every time we moved in the MoHo, the squeak appeared with each step. I found that it was the handbrake released, no squeak, even slightly on, it was squeaky so I left it off and chocked the wheels. We were on a level enough pitch so no need for the ramps. What am I going to do when on ramps handbrake off and chocks? Any ideas on how to stop the squeaking?

Lubricate the adjusters and hinge point of the lever in the brake cable under the van

Just thinking outside the box but are you sure it's the handbrake that's causing the squeak and not the rear leaf springs ? A properly set handbrake should hold the wheels rigid, not allowing any movement and therefore no sound can be generated Setting the handbrake will affect how the springs react to you walking about though. I think there was a thread a while back about Ducati leaf spring bushes creaking/squeaking with an aftermarket fix available.

It could be the springs but there is no squeaking when I release the handbrake.

With the handbrake off the wheels obviously are allowed to rotate slightly. But when on there not so that is where there is then attempted movement in the springs = causing the squeak

If it’s a top hat system with handbrake applied- the wheels can rotate a fraction thus the brake shoe sides can scrape on the bakplate? ? But,as has been suggested it could well be the springs

Think you’ve cracked it that’s what my one sounds like a backplate. Only does it a little bit so doesn’t bother me

We occasionally get a similar squeak, but I'm pretty sure it's the road leaf-springs. Goes away when it rains.........................
