Habitation lock assembly

Hello,, l'm trying to assemble my habitation door lock, could anyone tell me where the spring locates before putting the plastic cap on please

Does it not go on the outer part of the casting which retains the barrel, there should be two holes adjacent to each other to receive the spring?

I did take pics but when l took the plastic cap off the spring fell out,, probably because someone had tried to break in with a screwdriver,, but thanks for your helpful input,,,
