Habitation lights.

We have a 2010 Autocruise Rhythm. The reading/spot lights on the offside and the 2 ceiling lights of 3 (the ones nearest the back) are not working. Have removed lights and on reading lights have 12volts on one wire to earth and 13 volts on the other wire. If this is correct can anyone tell me how these cree led lights work. Any suggestions on how to get them working? Thanks

I'd guess there's a bad connection in there somewhere. Assuming your 'earth' is really connected to the chassis/metalwork of the vehicle. You can double-check this by trying the one that is working. It should be about zero volts on one wire, and about 13 volts on the other, as I'm sure you were expecting.

If a wire is broken and not connected to anything, the voltage can be any random value, depending on what it picks up by stray inductance or capacitance from any nearby wires.

It sometimes helps to connect an actual load like a small lamp, that tries to draw some small current from the wires. Then the voltages will change to both the same, and the lamp will not light.

A wee bit further forward, definitely poor earth. The ceiling lights would never have worked because the wires don't go anywhere. We couldn't have checked that when we got it. Reading lights, Jim has managed to get to work out of situ earthing onto screw in back door. Does anyone know where the earth is supposed to be connected? Not easy to follow wiring due to insulation. Would it run all the way back to the power supply or would it be the chassis somewhere. Appreciate any suggestions.

Sorry, no suggestions. Coachbuilt MHs usually don't have an easy-to-access frame/chassis so pos and neg are run right back to the distribution box. PVCs have the bodywork nearby so it may be convenient to connect the neg to that. Depends who did the conversion.

Why not just make an earth to the nearest bodywork connected to the earth side if the fittings?

@autorouter and @The Wino Lights now all working. Earthed to bodywork, found a bundle of wires not connected - no idea where they have come from or what they are supposed to do BUT the lights work. Thank you all

earth. When the bundle of wires were unscrambled this is what we found.
