Ok folks looking some advice . Where in n.ireland and bought a May 2021 Elddis 196 and as a part of the deal the dealer said they would do the first habitation check for us which he said he would date it May 2022 ( 1 year anniversary)
It is now June 16th and from May 12th we have been asking the dealer for some paperwork or something to show a HC was done...they are being really awkward about things and saying that they have sent all the relevant paperwork to Elddis.
So we rang Elddis yesterday and they got the paperwork but because the dealer is not a member of NCC..Elddis has now said that they need more paperwork from the dealer because they aren't NCC members. Elddis has now sent this case to there technical team for next steps .
So I rang the dealer today to ask him what the hell is going on and he palmed me off saying he has escalated this situation to management level in Elddis for clarification 🤔
Folks this hab check needs registered with Elddis and signed of by the 12th of July or our warranty is gone .
Is this correct...if this is a disagreement between Elddis and the dealer what happens if its not resolved by 12th July ...its not like me and the wife haven't been ringing and emailing both parties for the last 5 weeks or so to try and get this resolved but we're getting nowhere fast !!
Advice please.

My understanding is quite simple. Your warranty with Elddis is wholly dependant on you as the owner meeting their warranty requirements.

Sometimes manufacturers say for the warranty to be validated the service must be done within a given timeframe of the anniversary date of the van and also done by a registered approved dealer or some allow NCC approved workshops

So in your case, I’m guessing, the habitation service must be done by July, if they allow up to 2 months after the anniversary, and it must be done by an approved dealer or NCC workshop and your selling dealer is neither. So if not done in time by the right people your warranty will be null & void ☹️ Your responsibility I’m afraid

This is how I understand them generally, my Swift was like that and my new Adria will be the same but they allow NCC

You should always get paperwork showing what has been done and important the damp proof readings for the water ingress aspect. A friend missed the time frame on year 2 and lost his warranty totally.

The dealer assured us when we were buying the MH that they have sold numerous Elddis models over the years and Elddis have always accepted there hab checks ..but the dealers is telling me now that there's a "new" person in Elddis looking after HC registrations and there now saying that the dealer needs to do more check or paperwork or something..the dealer is being really vague about this when we ring ...if this is a disagreement between Elddis and the dealer were do we stand legally 🤔

I suspect it is down to you and Elddis, nothing to do with your selling garage as they are clearly not an approved Elddis dealer. Regardless of what’s happened in the past it’s what Elddis want now which is important. If it were me I think I would get another service done by an approved NCC mobile workshop and argue with the seller for reimbursement as they couldn’t meet the requirements of the warranty in time. You may need a lot of luck to get a service in time now so I’d get checking

I’d contact Elddis, find out who is a recognised HC technician and pay to get it down, then put it down to experience as this type of thing gets the blood pressure up and make ya brain fry.

Make sure Elddis knows exactly what you’re doing and then the warranty should be secured.

Then petrol bomb the dealers Phone the dealers and let them know the trouble you’re going too and tell them 25000 Funsters are aware of their slopy shoulders.

Who are the dealers, its nice to know who to avoid

My MH was bought 500 miles away, I checked with my manufacturer to ask if any NCC workshop could carry out hab checks but they informed me that it had to be the dealer who sold me it that did all the hab checks. A 1000 mile round trip each year?? Im taking the risk and not bothering. I might regret it, i might not but to refuse to let a more local place do it seemed daft. I think as long as you have entered into communication with your manufacturer its surely the decent thing to do to uphold your warranty as long as you can get it done asap by a NCC engineer

That sounds odd I would have thought at the most it would be any service agent approved by the manufacturer it is with Chausson.

Is this a brand new van or second hand, if it's new how did they do all the pre delivery and hab checks if they aren't registered to do hab checks
Are the original checks even valid now?

We got it when it was 11 month old with 3000 miles.
It was a year old on 12th May 2022 but we pick it up 15th April 2022 ..the dealer told us the hab check was done when we picked it up but he said he would wait and date it for the 12th of May 2022 .
When the May date arrived that's when the trouble started and we've seen no paperwork for the HC .
If we miss the first HC is our warranty wild elddis gone .
So what would the point be in doing a HC every year from now on if we have no warranty ??
My wife is taking this bad and getting really upset ..we spent 60k on a van that may have no hab warranty on it .

Do you have anything in writing re the hab check. One thing that concerns me is the dealers willingness to commit fraud and your acceptance of it, by entering a date that is false.

I would be having the check done elsewhere asap and then sending the dealer the bill, on the basis you have everything they agreed in writing of course!

Not so far. Decided to keep the £300 each year in a separate account instead. Even if my fridge died in 3 yrs time I’d still be better off paying for a repair myself. However I am aware that the big issues could be £1000s out of pocket. But then again would a dealer try to wriggle out of having to do any kind of huge repairs anyway? Having read threads on here its very possible. Check it regularly with damp meter and take my chances. My warranty is only 5yrs though,

Its Mclouis. Emailed them directly. Was informed it had to be the dealer where i bought it. My nearest Mclouis dealer is only 60 miles away but even that option was shot down by them. I love the MH, its layout and its storage & payload. No plans to change it at all so I will treat it like my house and make any repairs as and when they are required. I plan to keep it for many years to come so the future re-sell price isn't on my radar, not worried about hab service stamps etc. mechanically, the fiat will be serviced as per the handbook though

Don’t forget to add the £200 in fuel for the journey to your savings pot. ;)

This was my next question...about selling but that's not an issue at the minute for u .
Sent u a pm .

You could take it to Thompson Leisure who are an authorised Elddis dealer and get another hab check done.
It might be worth the additional cost for the year which will buy you time to decide what to do next year.
You could also push the dealer you bought it from to pay for this.
You will need to act fast as time is running out.

I think Thompsons are maxed out with work atm ..there's no chance of the dealer we bought it off paying !!

I'd definitely get another Han check done by an eldis dealer. I hope yours will be fine but there have been a couple on here with water ingress problems ( as with many other makes).

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as harsh, you took the dealer at their word and it's a shame they have let you down. I would def go ahead and get your own hab check done and then at least that's a worry of your mind. Check with Eldiss to see if they can recommend anyone local or just search via the internet. Best wishes and hope it goes well.

Can you not just deal with eldis yourself , and tell them what is happening , they would probably tell you what to do.
If you want the warranty to carry on it would seem you will have to at least get it booked in with an authorized place.

This whole new motorhome thing is totally rediculas isn't it, with their technical team for two weeks, crazy, they ought to be able to tell you in two minutes while you are still on the phone.

It's ruining the whole motorhome experience for us !

I would be putting it in writing to Elddis explaining the critical timeline and that you have endeavoured to comply with their warranty t & c's however given they have advised there could be an issue with this, and they have referred it to their technical team, you would not expect the resultant delay pending an answer from them to impact your warranty.
You should also request a written receipt \ response notification (via registered post?) from them.

There are a number of other Elddis approved service centres in Northern Ireland.
These are mostly caravan dealers but I can't see that making much difference for a hab check.
There is a list on the Elddis web site.
If it was my decision I would be phoning one of the approved centres and explaining the situation.
One of them may be willing to fit you in at short notice.

Bet someone somewhere uses covid as a reason for delays
