We’re on our way to Carcassonne from Gruissan & looking for a campsite close enough to visit by cycle but doesn’t want us to sign up for 4 days! - any ideas? We’ve done a week of Aires & would like to plug in for a bit.
Any help much appreciated.

There is a campsite in Carcassonne, City Camping I think, which we have used before, a few years ago.
Easy walk alongside a small river to La Cite.
I’m pretty sure that they also have an aire now, right by the entrance.

Richard.

There is a paid parking just outside the walls but be careful, it's really expensive. And the tariff board is complicated. Try and read it before you go into the parking. Once you're in it's too late. We ended up paying 20€ for one night. No services. Lovely city though.

we stayed at the Aire next to the campsite it was 15 euros a night but hook up and all mod cons small shop in campsite next door 10 mins walk to town centre . Just beware there is a low bridge in the town centre which can catch you out.

Don’t think the City Camping aire has electricity, it looks like there is a basic aire next to the campsite with no access to campsite facilities.
There may be parking in the campsite itself though.

It certainly did when we stopped there.
Like the OP we had spent time at Gruissan but had dodgy batteries and went to Carcassonne to give the batteries a few days on hookup.
It was a few years ago though.

Edit Not sure if Allanm was talking about the aire or campsite as his post changed. We stopped on the campsite, the aire wasn’t there then.

The aire next to the campsite has ehu, but there is a notice saying that users of the aire do not have access to campsite facilities - with exception of the mini-market :giggle:.

The site is a little bit more but we always use it in preference to the aire. It has nice big pitches and a field where the dogs can play ball. It also has a swimming pool if you want one. They now issue armbands to stop the aire occupants using the facilities.

Thing is, they want to plug in for a bit.

Thanks for the info guys. We originally looked at the Carcassonne cite site but their web page said “June is min 4 nights + extra €28 per night for tandem axle?. The Aire next door does have ehu at €15 so we stopped there. Before we paid into the machine I popped next door and you guessed it, €23 per night no extra for the tandem axle. Now, either I read it wrong or they need to sack the iT staff!
The wristband deal is true?

Sorry if I sound thick, but do you mean the campsite doesn't want you just for 4 days?
Sorry - read but as that. The web page I looked at said min 4 days.

Just had a look at their web site. I suspect that you can stay there for fewer than 4 nights - you just can't book for them.

We cycled from Bordeaux to Port la Nouvelle along the Canal du midi. Out closest stop to Carcassone was Trebes I think... not far c. 8-10km I think. It’s dead flat along the towpath until you get into Carcassone where the old town is upon a hill. As I recall site was busy in early July but there’s an unwritten rule that they have to take cyclists.

To confirm an earlier post. We have stayed at the site many times and the four day minimum only applies to bookings. It can get busy but we have found that if you arrive in the morning when people have left you can usually get on without booking. At one time there was a problem because their reception closed for lunch but it now doesn't.

The Aire is next to the campsite and it looks as if it used to be part of it. The Aire does have EHU (or did when we were there a couple of years ago) and is a lot cheaper than the campsite. It has marked out spaces which are big enough to sit outside of the motorhome.
