G’day
Recently bought globebus3 with just 3 hobs to cook on, which I was aware of, thinking naively, that I would just sacrifice a bit of a cupboard under the sink to put a gas grill. Turns out the cupboard(450mm internal) is too small accommodate a Smev grill, which appears to be the only option.
Does anybody know of any other small grills that will get out of the prob., or am I doomed to a life of fry-ups?
Phil

Does it have to be gas, or do you not use EHU….?

We had a SMEV grill in our previous van - absolutely useless.
Fitted a small elect oven but then needed hookup.

We only have a 3 burner hob. Like 3 previous vans and at no time did we miss the oven. We have a small slow cooker and a Cadac mini chef, these are ample for van life cooking. As an aside, we have got used to using tinned or fresh food this takes up less valuable fridge space, more for the beverages.

We use a small slow cooker which can be run through an inverter when we are traveling (it goes in the sink) or on EHU.

I don't miss having an oven.

Baked potatoes can be done in the slow cooker as can roast meat. It's not just for soups and stews!

We have had many caravans and two motorhomes. The current moho has a high level continental style oven/grill which is nigh on useless. We carry a microwave around under a seat and never use it. (Ask SHMBO why). I bought myself for Christmas a Ninja double draw air fryer. If you are on EHU there is nothing better.

Have you checked out Thetford Duplex. It fits a 400mm cupboard
I thought it weil worth losing cupboard space to fit it.
Super powerful and worth every penny.

I've never had a grill that did a proper job. Had to constantly turn even toast to get it done evenly. Ditto chops, sausages, fish fingers, rashers.........constant watching and turning them round all the time or one end was burned and other still nearly raw. And what a fag washing it up and cleaning up all the fatty splashes .Grrrr!

I agree they’re not perfect, but what would mornings be like without tea n toast!?

If all you want is toast then how about getting a folding camping toaster and using it on one of the hobs - one of these...

(Note - first link I found with the right product - not intended as a recomendation of the web shop)

It's virtually unknown for German vans to have an oven or grill. The only one we ever had with an oven/grill was a Buerstener 747 and I think we used the oven once.

Thanks for replys
Despite the arguments agin a grill I think I’m going to bight the bullet and purchase a Thetford grill.
A cold breakfast is difficult to contemplate.

We are off to Caravan Salon next week fairly certain we are going to order a new van.
If we get the one we are thinking of not possible to have a TecTower which we have had in the last 3 vans, so will probably give an oven a miss as it loses a big kitchen draw.

I'm going to kit the van out with Lithium so we will probably get a small air fryer and maybe a Romeska, we don't use EHU.

I’d be careful with ventilation but saw these recently

‘Introducing the Freedom Oven from Kampa! The Freedom Oven is an outdoor cooking appliance that is powered by a single 225g butane gas cartridge that gives you approximately 180 minutes of cooking time. The Freedom Oven features a 1kw 30-liter oven that is perfect from roasting to baking and warming. Piezo ignition offers reliable start-up, an oven temperature gauge for monitoring, complete with a timer with auto shut’

From the description of the Kampa, it does say that it’s an ‘outdoor cooking appliance’………. :(

Buy a ridge monkey you’d be surprised what you can do in one. Sort your breakfast toast etc out no problem. We’ve no oven or grill and manage just fine.

I cannot believe we have got to post 20 and no one has mentioned a Barbecue, we have a small gas one that is quite brilliant for any Grilling Toasting etc, it’s a simple one and works brilliantly.

I just bought one at the Malvern show. Think it's going to be well used. Loads of ideas for recipes on some FB sites.😊👍

Wow! just read about a Ridge Monkey, why haven’t I heard of them before?
I’ve cancelled order for Thetford oven, all I have to do now is rebuild the cupboard I spent today dismantling.

You will love them quick , easy to clean and a doddle to store. Cheek YouTube its full of ideas. They have official Chanel and plenty of other van users too. Great for home use too.
