Whilst we really love going away in our camper, we usually manage about 100nights a year, we also really enjoy flying long haul.

Off to Boston to spend 10 days down on the Cape with our daughter, son in law and 2 grandkids.

Relaxing with a glass of champagne pre take off, no queues at security in Edinburgh, great to be using our companion vouchers!

Off to New York at the end of the month for the Bank holiday weekend. Normal service resumed!

Neighbors have just spent six weeks in Australia visiting their son, they hadn’t seen him in three years due to the pandemic, 24 hours travelling time coming home, having to wear a mask all the time whilst onboard, was bit of a nightmare and six weeks was too long, they’re off to Tenerife next week and looking forward to shorter flights.

Long Haul is sadly a necessary evil in order to achieve a lovely family visit to family in my opinion. Dress it up whichever way you like it's a drag, even with regular flier upgrade! We go twice a year to Saigon to visit no.1 son and family. The long haul flight aspect I just dread. 13 hours sitting in a flying tube with nothing to see is sheer boredom!

I love long haul
Get the headphones on watching as many films as you want and being waited on.......i luv it
And then ooen thise doors and feel the heat and all the "exotic" smells , i have really missed going far afield

I well remember my first flight into Qatar and the hot air fireball entering the plane as they opened the doors!

Agree with all that, except not crammed into an aircraft breathing in recycled air for 13 hours . On a cruise ship yes please; but they don't do Saigon, it's 'hobsons choice' for us sadly, but the end result is worth it of course!

I used to love flying, until we went to Australia. Hate it now. Still do it but wont ever go that far again.
12hrs is my limit now. So Mauritius, Thailand etc.

Worked in the Mid East for 12 years, including a gulf war. Wait until it gets really hot!

Spent my whole life flying long haul, especially after leaving the sea and Mid East. More than happy never to do it again. Not even renewed my passport this time. Just had enough of it.

I was once operating for an airline based in Antalya, Turkey. When we landed it was 44C. After passengers left we went out onto the steps and the heat hit us like a brick wall. Ducked inside the a/c cabin till the crew bus arrived.

25C is my comfortable Max.

We have a trip to Indianapolis coming up. Great to be getting back to normal :)

Experienced the best ; Virgin upper to the Caribbean - and worst ; UK to Portland Oregon on UA - (Always wondered where all the hippies went to rest).... Always best when the journey is over.

Having read my motorhome manual back to front I still cannot work out how to get it fly at all, never mind long haul

If you want to experience how bad long haul can be try flying back from Florida in a Hercules, canvas seats, noisy, only a portaloo in a corner for 100 guys. No alcohol allowed and have to stop to refuel. And that was for a submarine crew after doing weeks at sea for DASO (Demonstration And Shakedown Operation) for the missile systems.

Well, we had a great flight over, the new BA business class cabin is superb. Delicious fish pie for dinner with a lovely glass or two of Chardonnay. Arrived half an hour early, no queue at all at security and sitting in our hotel room by 10.30. Great start to our holiday!

Looks great, Enjoy your stay

I remember flying into the old Kai Tak airport into Hong Kong, you could see in the residents flats in Kowloon, amazing flight entry also loved Cathay Pacific, brilliant service (better than the RAF VC10s).

Each to their own. One of the high points of retirement was never having to fly long haul again - or short haul come to that.
