Hi all - one of our locals has changed hands recently. The new landlords have spruced the place up, reduced the menu size and replaced it with a very small and basic, honest to goodness, fit to burst, home cooked range of food at proper pub prices.

So why's that relevant to the Funsters?

Well they have a MASSIVE road side car park. So part way through tonights steak and ale pie I asked if they had considered allowing Motorhomer's to stay for a night, if they ate in the pub. They had but only on a casual basis."I'm passing - could I park tonight" sort of thing.

I think that they might be underestimating the number of van'ing tourists that come into Cornwall, especially out of season They said they didn't really know where to advertise it. I said I would hook them up here. Could be worth a look while it's still under the radar! It would be polite to give them a call first. It's the Smugglers Inn, St Erth Praze a mile out of Hayle towards Helston.

We haven’t been to the Smugglers for several years as we tend to go to the Watermill at Lelant, but based on your recommendation we may give it a visit very soon (In the car, not the MoHo).

The Watermill is great - the food is more 'Cheffy' without being highbrow - we like it BUT you wouldn't get a motorhome in their carpark without battle scars. The Smugs has been up and down over the years I would say it's definitely up at the moment. Saturday nights are steak night - 2 for £20 and I thought they were pretty good. if you are not too fussy about food you are not going to leave hungry. It's basic but good and plenty of it. The car park and general access to the place is very good.

We've never been refused an overnight stay in any pub anywhere in Britain..........all you have to do is ask nicely and have a beer or two and maybe something to eat.

You're luckier than me!

We were going to a family wedding reception (so that must have contributed a couple of grand) just outside Bishop Auckland but the landlord said that if I wanted to stay I had to book a bedroom. So I only had one drink and went elsewhere for the night!

I had quite the oposite experience, My Grandson got Married and had reception in a Hotel near Camberly last June. I spent 2 nights on the Staff Car Park at the rear! FOC, even a gate to gain access to woodland for Doggy walks!. She (the dog) loved it, a long string of Grand-kids wanting to walk and play with her!.

Cornish Arms in Hayle , last time I was there, was a tad expensive, It wasn't the price of the meal, it was the 20% service charge that they wacked on (Which I flatly refused to pay)

Up country folk eh?
