Got the van out of storage at the weekend for an overnight stay on the CC site at Strathclyde park. Filled up with water as usual, opened the hot kitchen tap to fill the boiler etc but nothing but hissing and air! And it was blooming freezing, thank you to Phil D for reassurance on using my combi boiler empty!

Problem was a cracked plastic filter on the pump, again thanks to Stewartwebr who was parked on the next pitch to me in his glorious Morello ( he was able to confirm all on my roof was well as he looked down on it from his lofty lounge!) who diagnosed the problem.

Now here’s the simple great service bit, emailed IH on Sunday evening to say what had gone wrong, my fault, email back by 10am saying replacement part in the post, advice on how to fit, no mention of my fault, out of warranty, having to pay, just a bit of cheerful sympathy and told just to call if that didn’t fix things.

I know it’s what should happen and that it’s only a few quid, but it’s the response that counts.

I luckily remembered to drain and clean the water filter before the cold weather. 8 months old and the filter was really dirty. So easy to loosen the connector and spin the filter bowl into an accessible position to release it on the IH van.
I have also had great free and speedy service from IH with various items we have broken during the learning process, mainly window catches and leaning on the sink cover.

Another positive comment for great IH customer service: Took my (new to me) Oregon R down to the south of France for a week on a shakedown trip. Day 4 woke up to water on the kitchen floor; tracked the problem to a leaking water pump. Rang aftersales on the following Monday to discuss problem, sent some pics of the pump and they sent a replacement out to me - bearing in mind that I'm based in France - under warranty, along with a few other missing/ us items.
My only criticism would be of the original design which makes the pump and Truma Combi so inaccessible!!
