Just found that in Google photos I can see on a map anywhere that I have taken pictures and bring up all thos pictures. Quite handy to see where you've been previously. (when you have amemory like mine)

Just arrived at near Mastricht last night to find we were her last year and in 2019. (did I mention my memory  )

This only works when you have location switched on and I know some people will be too concerned about their privacy to do this but I wish we had had this all our lives. Just think of the adventure you could have looking at a map and tracing your past.

Google doesn’t for me. But iPhones do this as standard anyway. Assumed android would too.

Google used to get the sweet spot just right with the memories it showed me. It used to show me photos of holidays a year ago... 4 years ago today... etc all worth another look.

Now every 3 days or so it will remind me of my trip to Kirkton. That's where I work.

I get all the reminders too.

Try google maps, tap on the icon at the right side of the search bar and choose your timeline, then at the top choose trips, scroll down and tap on any of the trips and you will see pictures of the places you visited, under your itinerary it will show maps with the route you travelled how many miles you travelled etc. And a bit further down photos you took at those locations. All the above only works if you have location settings turned on. This is on Android, i don't know about Apple.

Just looked at mine. It was set to 3 months. I've changed it now, thanks.

Interesting. How do you get the map open on your screen?

Just be mindful of the amount of roaming data it can use if the photos are collected from the cloud via auto backup form your device.

You can also search the photos for a named person if you’ve added a name, mountains, dogs etc etc and it will bring up all your photos from that category.

....or maybe someone in recent news wishes they'd had theirs turned off?

Too soon?

Google used to copy/backup all our photos to the cloud by default so had to change it in the settings somewhere to stop it doing it This knackered the timeline thing because it couldn't find a photo of the day.
Each photo is about 4Mb and we average about 100/day just snapping so it soon mounts up.

Why would you want to stop it?

To save data when roaming (and also coz I'm old skool and don't need to backup to the cloud)
I do all my backups on a PC and have two eternal drives for backups. How old skool is that?

100 photos per day average? That's a lot of patient friends and relatives :giggle:

Gosh. All that functionality for "free" ! As if.
I know where I'd want my backups to go to, even if i have to pay for it, whether it be in a private cloud storage or an old school external hard drive.
Don't most phone cameras allow for location data to be stored within the image, providiging location of the phone is turned on. It's not special to Google, even my Legacy genealogy software uses it.
