Why does google maps always default to the Chunnel for crossing the channel?? I suspect its financial. No matter what you do it always includes it..
If I plan a route from my hertfordshire address it will go M25 , A2, M2 and arrive at the docks.. but will also give me the option of going via the M20..
the best route from Dover Docks to Calais ferry terminal according to google and several other mapping services is via the Chunnel, i.e. drive from the docks to Folkstone and get on the train and drive from the train to Calais Ferry terminal...
The AA uses google so is no better..
Michelin Maps finally gave a direct route but that was only after picking the most economical route.
I will however plot my route from here to dover. Calais to my destination in northern holland.
I know the deal is not bad on the chunnel for a motorhome but is does start to get a bit expensive at my total length of 16 metres.
