Hi Folks
I caught the ferry over from our home in Northern Ireland last night with my family and drove the 200-mile trip down from Liverpool to my parent's place, just near Oxford. We're due to be here for a week to catch up with family now that we can.
Towards the end of the trip on the A34, the engine light came on and our motorhome started losing power. I pulled over on a layby and checked things over. The oil level was fine. The coolant level was fine. Generally, the engine didn't feel too hot or anything obvious. No oil mess on the undercarriage. The van didn't skip a bit for the rest of the trip. Didn't notice anything untoward.
I filled up at a garage last night that I don't know before boarding the ferry in Belfast, so might be dirty fuel, but I think this is unlikely. It's looking more and more like a problem with the engine, as I suspect the engine is only running on 3 cylinders as it's running very rough and no power.
I plugged an OBD reader in and it reported no error codes, even with the engine light on.
My question: can anyone recommend a "good" garage in the south of England (e.g. within 40 miles of Oxford) that can handle an [possible] engine rebuild on 5-ton motorhome?
I have rebuild engines before, so I'm considering extending my trip and staying here for longer and doing that or taking it to a garage.
I'd love to chat to some garages that folks here have had good experiences with. If I'm going to pay someone to do it for me, I'd prefer not to have some unknown cowboys pulling my engine apart!
