France is bringing in new restrictions from Saturday for travellers from UK due Omicron levels will need compelling reason again plus pcr so Tourism is banned again.

French gov spox confirming new UK/France travel restrictions, from Saturday:
-pre-departure test taken within 24 hours
-Reasons for visiting limited to essential for French nationals/residents, i.e. not tourism.
-7-day isolation, lifted after 48 hours with -ve test on arrival

Unclear about transiting at this point.

Looks like No Transiting as Tourism is not on the list of essential travel...

Sail to another EU country & just cross another border into France - Schengen.

I think Holland is already shut so it only leaves Spain and likely to follow suit. Stupid thing is Omicron will already be there and spreading so its too late anyway but that does not explain why we are seeing such high numbers now and thy are not unless them wearing masks everywhere and having a covid passport is helping but we bury our head in the sand so the backbenchers don't push Boris out I couldn't possibly comment:censored:

More politics , there's no stopping it and according to data from South Africa it's not that bad anyway

Initial research project [University of Hong Kong?], that has yet to be Peer Reviewed, has found that Omicron multiplies in the Bronchus 70 times quicker than Delta, but appears to be much slower attacking the Lung Tissue, which might explain both the very quick transmission and the relatively mild damage seen in cases so far. The researchers do stress that much more work is required to confirm their findings, but they are confident that they are on the right track

The South African figures are felt to be misleading re severity of infection for the twin reasons of SA having a much younger population; and its latest infection surge occurring 3 months after that of UK, meaning that there is a stronger residue of herd immunity
