Hi we’d like to take our vw camper to Germany next month. We’ll use the tunnel to Calais and prefer camping sites but happy to use the odd aire equivalent. Usually stay 2/3 nights before moving on. I have no idea of routes etc and wondered if there was a thread I could read or if anyone has suggestions- thank you!

I would suggest you get the acsi discount card if you using campsites, just an example the mosel river was our first experience of Germany in 2007 and almost always visit everytime we go. 😁

But as we have everything on board we use the cheaper camperstops, but some of those are like small campsites and have a toilet and shower. 😁
Google Stellplatz you will find loads of places to stop. 😎

Trier is a good place to start, they have a shower.

We did a short trip into Bavaria if you are interested in going that way. Used the Acsi card on campsites as we used these rather than Aires because we were staying a few days at each point, and either cycling or using public transport. So for example we stopped at Nusdorf and either cycled to get the ferry to Minau or walked to get the train to Friedrichshafen. The municipal at Luxembourg because there was a 1 euro bus ride into the city from the road leading to the site,

Moselle. Plenty of sites .

Great one at Schweich on the river. Also, Graach an der Mosel, also riverside. Fabulous area.

I didn’t think you would get any discount in July. Off peak times only.

A lot of sites except it for the first couple of weeks into July, it's always worth having a couple of nights on a campsite and its payed for itself. 🙂
We have only used ours twice so far this year, but going back to Spain in September we use a €12 site with acsi the aire next door is €12.50. 😁 Bob.

Thanks for suggestions- we did a little of the Romantic Road and the campsite at Rothenburg ob de Tauber was good. Then a couple of sites in the Black Forest. Almost no UK tourists in Germany as others have observed.
