Most of us appreciate German goods Motorhomes, Ovens etc etc but they even get a better by this most simple of ideas whilst we have got a Minister of Transport that doesn’t know which way up is.

Not all of their motorway are great
Driving some in the rain is not nice :(they seem to put very little camber on them to aid surface water runoff
Going around the south of Stutgart on a week day can be an interesting experience. I don't think I have seen so many lorries going nowhere
They were all restricted to one lane though

the Nazis built ones were flat as they didn’t want the tanks rolling off the road into the side 😉

But there again, they don't normally include emergency hard shoulders on many of their motorways so this practice is, to me, "a good thing".

Would love to see it trialled in the UK though! Not a chance!

I’m in Germany at the moment. The other day, on the A5. That did not work like it should. Many drivers started to do it, then went out of line to look down the middle. All went tits up

We were caught up in the aftermath of an accident in Italy. All vehicles pulled to the right or left to leave a clear lane (interesting in the very narrow tunnels) but then everyone was out of their vehicles in the centre of the road to rubber neck.

What are you supposed to do in the UK on ‘Smart‘ motorways when there is an accident and the hard shoulder is occupied by lines of traffic, I haven’t seen any instructions on how drivers should make room for the emergency services.
