Genie's in sick bay

When we got home from Chester we saw that there was oil on the (brand new) monoblock right where we park Genie the motorhome. We'd noticed 2 or 3 clutch slips on the 400 mile journey but not regular and not when we were pushing it in 4th or 5th (only did that to test the clutch).
Phoned the garage that look after her and the guy did that sucking through the teeth thing that lets you know it's probably expensive. Bummer.
She's in there now having a diagnostic.

They phoned and said it was the sump gasket. Being replaced tomorrow. I guess it could have been worse.

Oh well bet your relieved will get an oil change at least might as well change the filter at the same time

Well sadly I doubt that will cure the mentioned clutch slip.. Be prepared for a near future encounter with the garage again

Liked this but not really! Did you tell them about the clutch slip, if so ask them what a sump gasket has got to do with it!

I told them about the clutch slip. As it had only happened 3 times in 400 miles he just said wait and see. That will be the second clutch in 34k miles. And before anyone asks, no we don't drive with a foot on the pedal but we have had a remap. (she says opening a can of worms)

Oh and I had the diagnosis wrong. It was only the bung and seal in the sump so it wasn't an expensive fix.

I have heard people say remapping and putting chips on vehicles can put extra wear and tear on clutches & engines...

Some clutches can be adjusted, I'd just keep an eye on when it seems to slip... maybe when it's under extra load?

You can normally tell if a clutch is on its way by where the bite is on the pedal. If it's quite high up, it can mean a sign of wear or may just need adjustment.

Just keep an eye on it.
