I have a rapido distintion i90 auto , problem when i select a gear the display says gear not available
any help greatly appreciated

Obvious question is do you have your foot on the brake when trying to select the gear. If it's just started doing it for no obvious reason then I'd suspect the brake pedal switch might be playing up - do the brake lights stay on/off all the time?

Is it a comfortmatic. If so to save repartition.

Could be simple brake switch problem or a tad more of an issue.

Good luck

Try selecting neutral. Ignition off.
Press foot brake
Turn ignition on, start engine with foot on the brake
Select reverse and then drive.
Remember, the comfort matic doesn’t like left foot braking
ie. juggling the foot brake and accelerator at the same time.
Worst case, disconnect the main battery, and reset everything.
Hope you get sorted.
Treat the gearbox gently.... they like things to change S L O W L Y 🙄😂👍

Same symptoms with mine a couple of years ago. 30a fuse had blown in the engine bay fuse box, one specific to the comfortmatic. Replace fuse, ok for a while then fuse blew again. The problem diagnosed as low fluid on the auto change mechanics due to leakage, change fluid reservoirs I think and everything fixed. Extremely capable chap at Desira in Diss, who actually new and understood the comfortmatic and its workings.

It was only a temporary fix for my fault. But it worked several times before it would not work at all any more. I guess the fluid got too low. I was traveling at the time and by chance I was lucky to get breakdown transport to Desira in Diss.

If it is Fiat based and your battery got low it could well be the air bag ECU. This is a common fault. I've had it in the past and had to send the unit to 'Crashdata' for repair.

I had that with my 3000cc comfomatic and it was the Clutch . I changed the dual mass flywheel at the same time. Go to a motor factor for a price because they may be the same make as you would get from the dealer but fraction of the price!
