Does anyone know a ball park figure of replacing a clutch on 2010 Manual six speed Fiat 3ltr 160 bhp engine And a good recommendation of where to get it done. I think mine is on its way out. Motorhome has done nearly 43,000.

Try PlymouthCity bus. I had mine done at Vospers in 2009 they charged me £1300.

Hi, are you manual or Auto (comfortmatic) if later sometimes clutch life can be extended by clutch position relearn, going to cost a couple of hundred for a spin of the coin.

The 3l fiat engine can get through a dual mass flywheel in next to no time. We had one that was worn and caused excessive knock which made the clutch a bit unhappy on hills when going for it. Light foot and take off no issues. Which was a bit of a surprise.

Last used Adam Morey, Portsmouth. Completed the work quickly and advised cost estimates along the way. Final bill was best part of £4K to take box out replace flywheel, clutch plate, cover, slave cylinder and master cylinder, Heli coil the stripped engine/gearbox bolts. We parted company with afterwards as it had been recovered due to breakdowns 4 times in 2019.

Lots of folks have no issues so maybe one of the exceptions.

Digressed a bit but a straight clutch replacement is likely to be between £12/1400-£2k

TOTALLY IRRELEVANT (but may give you an idea of costs?)

2 weeks ago I had my engine removed, new glow-plugs (old ones had to be drilled out!), clutch & dual-mass flywheel, master cylinder and a small fuel pipe replaced on my 2.7l Merc.
£1800 at a Merc specialist (not main dealer).

They charged £55 per hour labour; if I'd gone to my usual garage it would have been £35ph.
18 h hours so I "lost" £360! :(

Sorry but I would expect a clutch on what is basically a commercial vehicle to Last more than 43000 miles...
Driving style???????

Mines an 07 3L160 multi jet, with about 41 thou on the clock. No clutch problems to Report as of yet, but I am fully aware that this is possible at any time with this engine. Plenty have succumbed long before 40k miles. I nurse mine, and drive it very carefully as I can to try and eliminate any early clutch wear/problems.

Had a new clutch and mot on a hymer 2.7 merc A class about 2 years ago cost 680.

Just had a new clutch and flywheel fitted to a 2007 Ducato 3litre manual 160 multi jet on 30000 miles ... cost £1100 in Coventry.

Never in my life have I heard of a slave cylinder & master cylinder going at the same time as a full clutch & flywheel?
A heli-coil too? Seems to me that they've charged you for repairs to parts which they've damaged, that's is they were actually damaged in the first place.

Me thinks they saw you coming mate.

Just had the clutch repaired including a new slave cylinder on my 2009 130 multijet, a tenner shy of £600. Looked at the bill and seen it says advise replacing the gear change cable. Now why could they not have said at the time?

Exactly the reason I am buying a new Fiat AutoTrail for £37,995 and not anything second hand, I really do not want a Fiat, Peugeot or Citroen but I do not want to pay the massive premium that my first choice of a Mercedes conversion would entail, warranty will be my friend at least for a while, and I will always have my trusty non converted Sprinter panel van to fall back on when the Fiat is in for the inevitable repairs

That's what my window cleaner makes ..............and all he has is a bucket, squeegee and a ladder (virtually no overheads AND he uses my water!).
Your window cleaner is cheap. We’ve swapped to a cheaper window man, but he is still £15 and it takes him no more than 10min. So £90 an hour

A ex school teacher friend of mine after suffering stress in his job, took up window cleaning as a temporary measure. After 25 years in his temporary career change he could not be happier. Lots of elderly customers, gets there shopping bits etc. Lots of tea stops may not be the highest paid window cleaner but happy with a sense of self worth!
Feel sure it must be due to his University experience! Or possibly no Debt!
Who knows

My garage, North Birmingham Motors just completed the job for £590 inc VAT, replacing the clutch plates and the slave cylinder. Speaking to the mechanic his view is that Ducato's need a heavier duty clutch on Motorhome's due to their weight. He also said it is not an easy fix.

The Augusta is 4.5 tonnes spent much of the last 11 years towing a Porsche on a trailer (1800Kgs) now on 110,000 miles - original clutch still going strong......

did you buy new as if so you will know how the clutch has been treated, whereas mine had only 32000 on the clock when we bought it so no idea as to how it was treated before us.

Yes bought from new in March 08. As a race/rally driver I'm mechanically sympathetic, I'm hoping for 250K miles from the engine/gearbox clutch 150K??

Engine doesn’t come out for that. Head off ?

I don't know how much work you have done through an Aclass letterbox (perhaps mine is small?) but when removing my battery there was a 2mm gap. I wouldn't want to trust someone lining up head bolts etc whilst at full-stretch in there.

Given that I also had a noise coming from the lower regions, I was advised that changing the dual-mass flywheel was a likely solution, so I was happy to let it be done. NOW I don't appear to have any mechanical problems, so worth it IMO.

I have never had a clutch go at this low mileage despite never having bought new
I agree but the 3.0Ltr suffers from too high gearing, especially in reverse. Design flaw which they tried to circumvent by increasing bottom end torque. Not entirely successfully.

It depends on the type of slave cylinder. Many modern vehicles have a concentric slave, some incorporating the release bearing in the same assembly. The associated master is a tiny device behind the pedals sharing fluid with the brake reservoir. IMV once the clutch is off it would be a false economy not to replace the slave cylinder in such cases. Last time I took an interest in prices a slave / release assembly was around £70 - £80.

Sorry, I was forgetting the a class possibility!.

nightmare

doubt I’d buy another a class

Yes it is like the water pump inside cam belt scenario- I thought that the internal slave cylinder replacement now was standard when changing a clutch?.

Ditto worn/iffy dual mass flywheel and if your in there would you not replace the clutch plate an cover!

Guess some folks have a bigger appetite for risk.

Circa 40 years in the power generation industry has conditioned me to plan for the worst and hope for the best, then good news is a double bonus. Largely for that reason always find the cost of service/repair significantly less than issues resulting from a breakdown and the stress of will it won't it.

I assume it is.
