My large gas bottle needed changing on our last little trip and Se the smaller one is connected which I don’t want to use due to the robbery on smaller bottles.

I read about Gasit - I have the funds but not the usage but when I see the cost of a 13kg refill - circa £35.00 plus / minus a bit at various places it makes me want a refillable just because of the robbery.

I read some threads from Wombles on Safefill and again it’s an option - although to be honest I think it’s odd that they have been out of stock for so long - i means it’s just business madness - I emailed them they suggest stock in the new year but don’t say when in the new year.

So, reading through some old threads on gas in general I found a thread from someone who quoted a company called TGS industrial (tyne and wear) and their gas prices are suberb !

£23.95 for a 13 kg refill.

A pound more for a 18kg bottle.

Now Tyne and Wear is a problem for me being a Yorkshire girl but all it does is make you even more annoyed that the others are
just so greedy. I mean if they can do it others can.

The reason for the post is I thought it might be useful to highlight the above company for local people to them and if anyone has any other companies they want to highlight any other companies that are kinder with their prices.

I got a 13kg propane refill from a garage just outside Dover a few weeks ago, cost was £37.99. Encouraged me to fit 2 11kg Gasit bottles a bit quicker than I originally planned.

TGS is just down the road from us and they sell much more than just the gas. Usually at reasonable prices.

Life is cheap on Tyneside !! But not in the same way that it is cheap in certain parts of London.

Only had four motorhomes.

Fitted Refillable bottles to em all.

Not so much for the fact that you give half of it back when you are off for long trips. But also the convenience of being able to fill up anywhere from Ålgård to Zaragoza.

My Best price was 28p a litre in Luxembourg a couple of years ago.

Although we have a refillable, we bought a refill for the Flogas 13Kgs a couple of months ago from Brandon Tool Hire in Saltash, (I'm sure they will have this Co. in your neck of the woods.)
I was charged the princely sum of £22.22 which I thought reasonable.

I’m aware of Brandon tool hire - thanks - I will check this out !

You did well - looked at Brandon in general and website quoting £32.47 plus vat for 13kg.
Thank you though - very appreciated.

It's worth knowing that LPG bought from garage forecourts will be more expensive than that sold by gas companies. The reason being forecourts sell it as vehicular propulsion whereas gas companies are selling it for cooking/heating and the rate of v.a.t. is a different category (even though it's the same gas). You can use FILLLPG or MYLPG websites to find suppliers.

Not just about the money, so much easier than lugging heavy cylinders about and you can get gas in any country.
Pricewise I think it's a no brainer, we have 2 x 14kg Alugas bottles so far this year I've put in 220 Lt (approx 110 kg) and I need to fill this week probably another 40 Lt. Even at £24 a bottle 110 kg would cost £203 & at £37, £321, easily recover in 2 years with refillables.

Flogas is cheap I got a 6 kg Calor and an 11 kg Flogas bottle. the 11 kg is cheaper to refill at just under 20 quid than the 6 kg Calor at 25 quid. I only use the calor as a back up now.:xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb:

Cheers I will do that.

Chorley gas is £25 for 13kg calor for anyone local to them same
Price for 18kg as well.

I look at at this way
£250 outlay as an investment in Convenience refundable at any time by removing and selling on
say £100 balance repaid in first year
£100 a year saving year on year if you are a heavy user
Even just one fill per year is a better return than your money in the bank:xThumb:

Bought our for the convenience of being able to refill anywhere, UK or Europe, with no hassle about changing/exchanging bottles. Did a calculation recently which I posted up on here, money back in 4 years and now quids ahead.

It all depends on your style of touring of course, there are some circumstances where a refillable isn't the best solution.

You are spot on with this Geo and is how i think to be honest - but I’m wired up to to check all options before I decide - then oscillate a bit - change my mind - oscillate a bit - then go back to plan A.

My genuine quandary is I know I don’t use a lot of gas although plan on not using EHU as much next year so will use slightly more but not a lot more.

I fairly sure that following one more oscillation I will order a Gasit system in New Year when they re-open.

The main purpose of my post was to grumble at gas bottle prices - knowing that a minority of suppliers actually don’t feel the need to rob you.

Thank you all for your comments.

Best wishes
Jo

In my case, (post 5) maybe it was because I went in with a Smiley face and had a bit of craic with the guys in there. I've no doubt there is a 'Customer' price and a 'Trade' price, even on something like gas..

After 2 years with my GAS-IT LPG conversion I decided to make (another) video on the filling procedure, but this time I discuss the economics of a permanent LPG installation versus a "Calor" bottle exchange system.
I'm not sure how accurate my maths is but, over 2 years, LPG has cost me an average of £1.07 per Kg (or 54 pence per Litre).

Anyway, here's my video with some figures/costs at the end.

Hi Go Humberto,
Watch the video - skipped the fill bit as seen a few of those lately.
Very good - I think a spreadsheet puts things in a clear consice way allowing you to make an economic decision or after seeing the figures let’s you say “ah stuff it - Convenience and let’s just get it for the long term plan” wins.

I note the 6kg refill will be a big
factor in your calculations.

I think I will monitor next years usage the best I can and see what my 13kg bottle will give me - even though I want the gas is in-locker system.

Thanks very much for the reply and the video.

Jo

Just posted this on the other thread that's running:

Not just about cost but also convenance, so much easier than lugging bottles about and the biggest bonus you can get gas in any country.
Very cost effective for us we have 2 x 14 kg Alugas, transferred from our last so they have done over 4½ years paid for themselves in under 3 years
Yesterday filled up with 40 Lt that makes 260 Lt this year or looking it another way if we were using exchange bottles that would be 20 times I would have put my back out this year.
