Hi reposted because i still need a answer please.
Tried to run my Charbroil bbq off new van gas point. Wont work because it now has two regulators. Spoken with Charbroil the only adapter they do is for patio gas not propane. See picture for regulator.

Get a length of the orange gas tube. You have to bypass the bbq regulator either by removing it from the metal tubing or the tubing from the bbq. If you can reuse metal tubing connect orange to that otherwise you would need an adapter to the bbq. Should all be standard sizes, with luck

Do you only use your BBQ on the camper van? If so you could remove the Charboil regulator otherwise maybe ask the dealer for a solution

Just want it for the van to run off my on board bottle then i dont have to cart a patio gas bottle around or have on in my shed.
Manufacturers basically said tough it runs off patio gas.

If i cut off the regulator i wont be able to control the flame

Before a gentleman on here offered to remove the regulator off your BBQ and then he would fit a basic valve in its place. That way you remove the regulator and keep the ability to adjust the flame.

Hi Simon,

Sorry I'm not clear on what you're question is this time.

I replied to one of your earlier posts to say we'd had a similar problem when we mistakenly bought a Weber Go Anywhere Gas BBQ - like your BBQ it had an built-in regulator, and we didn't realise that that would mean it couldn't be connected to the motorhome on-board gas supply.

We found we had two options - (1) was to somehow remove the integrated regulator, and (2) was to sell the BBQ and buy a BBQ which was correctly configured to work off the motorhome's on-board gas.

We chose (2), but as per LA's post above, another forum member has previously offered to modify your bbq for you, so would that not be a good option? 😊

I bought the bbq to use and have since had a bbq point fitted to the van and it doesn’t work. I didnt take the offer up of help as i was waiting for the manufacturer to reply. They cant help so i have a bbq I cant use unless someone else comes up with a remedy.
I think selling it will be the way forward and i will find another option.

It won’t work. The Charbroil BBQ has a combined regulator/control valve - remove or bypass it and the unit is uncontrollable. Add to that the fact that it is (insofar as I can establish from looking at the manual) connected via a unique ‘twist ‘n’lock’ arrangement, and there isn’t an easy solution to the problem.

IMHO the best solution would be as March Hare has suggested and sell it and get another unit without a built-in combined regulator/control valve. Also check the output of the MoHo onboard gas regulator (possibly 30mbar if it’s European or of recent manufacture) and try to get a BBQ rated for the same input. Also pay attention to the length of flexible connecting hose advised, some say no more than 1.5M. If it is to also run off a standard propane bottle connection at times, then Primus have a POL fitting 30mbar regulator to suit.

Finally, although no doubt with the best intentions, adapting or modifying a gas appliance from the manufacturers supplied condition can have serious consequences - particularly if done for someone else and even with no payment involved - I’ll say no more than that. ;)

Hi Simon, you have my sympathy because we made exactly the same mistakes as you have inadvertent made! 😟 Like you, we had the BBQ point fitted, and bought what we believed was a suitable BBQ, only to find that the BBQ was unsuitable for connection to the motorhome BBQ point due to the integrated regulator 😟

The BBQ had only been lightly used, so we gave it a good clean and waited until the height of the BBQ season and listed it on eBay (as used) and we were amazed when we got almost what we paid for it, so I'd definitely give that a try.

We then bought a Cadac Grillo Chef 2 which we're delighted with, there's an excellent strength of flame, it cooks quickly and it's easy to clean if you use the BBQ mats - but you've probably spotted that they're a bit like Marmite, but it suits us very well! 😊

That’s your best option to be honest .

depending what thread is on the pipe to the burner you may be able to screw a gas cock on to the pipe and a barbed adaptor in the other side of the valve but manufacturers use some non standard threads in the build

Thanks Orion and others you have made my mind up. The reason I hesitated was the offers of help to modify the bbq concerned me regards safety so its back to the drawing board. I may keep it and use at home or sell on. Great bbq if anybody wants to but it and run off canisters or a patio gas bottle.

Hi March Hare
Do you connect your grilli chef to onboard bbq point i dont want to make the same mistake again.
Camping gaz have a new model similar to the Charbroil i had that claims it runs of bottled gas.

Morning Simon, yes we connect our Cadac BBQ directly to the motorhome's external gas BBQ point. Autogas2000 in Thirsk fitted the BBQ point and the Alugas refillable gas cannister for us. 👍

With the motorhome BBQ point we were given a gas hose fitting, so when we bought the Cadac, we took the Cadac's end connection, and the connection for the motorhome's BBQ point to our local gas fitter shop, and they made up the hose for us with a 1.5m length.

Just in case it's of use, below a the link to our BBQ - when we bought ours it was called the Grillo Chef 2, but it's now called the Grillo Chef 40. If you scroll down through the photos you'll see one of the BBQ connected to a motorhome. There's also a section for gas fittings - we bought the quick fix connection which is handy as it's a sprung attachment. They also sell the BBQ mats which really help with the cleaning!

Hope that helps! 😊

Just to clear up things on the "safety" front, please find the attached technical info on the valve I proposed fitting to enable the bbq to run from the van's regulated gas supply. It's the Teflon sealed version, good to 250 bar (that's 3625 pounds per square inch in old money) and rated at 200°C.
n.b. The Teflon seal is not the thin "plumber's tape" type Teflon for sealing water pipes, but a high density gland seal.
