im a newbie
hi im hoping for some advice regarding my old but useful garmin nuvi 310 ive owned for a good few years and it came with UK and Ireland loaded and have updated a few times but it always says internal memory full ,but still works ok ,anyway im off to france this summer and wonder could i pay for then load the french maps or is this model too old ,ive sent a email to garmin support but no reply ,has any one got this model and been able to load France maps and if not which would be a good priced alternative ,i think that the ability to avoid some tolls will cover the cost of a new unit ,also which ever device i get id prefer garmin due to a few garmin devices i have that im happy with ,

Have you inserted an 8GB SD card in the device? That should help you load a map update using Garmin Express software assuming you have a lifetime updates device.

If you do not have a lifetime updates device I believe Garmin charge about £35 for a new map covering France or £80 for all of Europe.

If you still have problems after inserting an sd card you can remove the exiting maps before loading new maps. I always do this since having experiencing a similar problem. Let me know how you get on and if no luck after inserting the card I will send you details of my procedure.

had reply from garmin ,it say to fit 2 gb sd card to be able to update uk and ireland fully ,which i will ,i dont have lifetime updates for europe so can buy a preloaded card but the told me to check for compatibility which unfortunately the 310 isnt listed so recon i wont be able to use this one in france unless theres a way arround it ,but to be honest it has had a good life

I have started using the Waze app on my phone, its great!

Never updated the old Nuvi. Until it was superseded by the Camper 760 LM, the Nuvi with outdated maps still functioned very well in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. You get used to driving on new roads that aren't on the screen but not for long. Then you rejoin ones that are shown. The only change that I needed to make was deleting the fixed speed camera file for France that had become illegal.

Because All Europe became too big for the onboard storage I extended the life of my old Garmin nuvi (model # tbc) by adding an SD card.

I use the Garmin Express app to update the nuvi

The app is a bit dim. If I don't delete the old map it complains there isn't enough space...

The struggle would’ve been like a one time adjustment but you got a good deal & lifetime mapping ??
Thanks for the update.

I still haven’t confirmed my nuvi model but if pushed 205W? ? edit: bought it from amazon 2008 and it’s the 255W ;)
Had it ages and like how it works. Plus have lifetime maps tied to it.

i had already ordered a SD card for it so when it gets posted recon ill try it and if good it has lifetime UK and Ireland so one of my kids will make use of it and it is built like the old Nokia phones so think it is pretty indestructible ,where has the new one is bigger screen but is definitely more delicate

My old 660 zumo motorcycle sat nav struggled with up dates until I replaced the sd card. It has updated fine since. Do sd cards become tired/worn out?

Do sd cards become tired/worn out?

I have had a couple of sd cards fail over the years so no longer rely on them for critical data.

Like SSD drives, SD have lifespans. Edit: even spinning disks have a mean time to failure spec, iirc
But they’re (SD card) usually easily to keep backups of.
Don’t use them to keep the only copies of your wedding / special event pics ?
