Garmin Map Scam

Just bought second hand Garmin and was trying to update maps on pc on what I thought was the official Garmin website ( found by Google). Within a couple of minutes had an "agent" asking if I wanted support as I was having difficulties downloading maps. Part of scam, an agent called to update me remotely, all sounded genuine until they wanted to switch off virus checker as it was interfering with the update, at that point I hung up/ disconnected pc.

Just had a Google for Garmin Map Scam, it appears to be quite prolific.

Can't believe I go taken in so quickly.

Must go now and see about changing all my accounts.

As far as im aware it’s in App Store on Apple and assume it’s on android app store or whatever it’s called

Go to https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/ which is definitely the true Garmin UK home page. Select Automotive and under Discover you will see the link to Garmin Express. https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/software/express/windows/

Thanks Speve , I will eventually find the Garmin stuff.

For now, I'll be spending the next two days changing my email/passwords etc, as I've no idea what data they have managed to harvest.

Just thought it was worth warning funsters. I think of myself as tech savvy, but I was taken in so easy... frightening.
